I'm looking for examples of songs where a Remix or Alternate Version (studio, not live) became the standard version.

For example, Tori Amos' "Talula" was remixed for the film Twister. The remix is called "The Tornado Mix" and was released as a single. The Tornado Mix quickly replaced the original version on the album, so unless you bought the album within the first few months of release back in 1996, you've only known the Tornado Mix of the song.

Not everyone would agree that it is better (I'm not even sure I do) but the single version of ZZ Top's Legs seems to be the more popular one.

There's that horrible reverb-laden and re-EQ'd version of La Grange that always seems to be the one I hear on the radio. I wonder which version streams these days.

Speaking of Tori Amos, wasn’t there another song of hers that was way bigger in remixed form than the original?. Was it Professional widow?

"Hey Jupiter (The Dakota Version)" was used for the music video and single, and is usually the version she plays live. It's a dramatically re-recorded version of the song. I just didn't want to only give Tori examples (and it didn't replace the original version on the album).

Kraftwerk's 1991 "The Mix" makes some some radical changes to their older songs, shortening them, increasing tempo and adding a more danceable beat. These are the versions thr band plays in their "live" performances.

I like the original versions but I must admit I listen to Minimum - Maximum more than any other Kraftwerk album, and these are "The Mix" versions.

That's a good one, the single version is the only version on my copy of Eliminator, so I've never heard the original album version.

Cornershop's Brimful of Asha is a good example. speeded up 'Big Beat' version by Fatboy Slim has definitely become the default. The original deginitely drags in comparison.

Kate Bush has used the single remix version of The Big Sky in place of the album version on the last two reissues of Hounds of Love.

"MISSING" by Everything But The Girl is most often heard in its Todd Terry remixed incarnation. And I prefer it.

Another good one. I only have the 2018 remaster so I've never heard the original album version. Thanks!

Originally an (mostly) a capella song that was later remixed by a group DNA. The remix was the HIT.

On the rock station that's part of the group I work at, we do use the mastering on the Rancho Texicano set which is the original mix.
