Yesterday Doris Day, and now Tim Conway. Tim has died at the age of 85 after battling dementia.

He passed away at 8:45 a.m. in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday, his rep Howard Bragman confirms to PEOPLE.

Prior to his death, he suffered complications from Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) and had no signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Conway is survived by his wife of 35 years, his stepdaughter, his six biological children and two granddaughters. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would like donations to be made to The Lou Ruvo Brain Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The beloved actor is best known for his work on The Carol Burnett Show, winning viewers over with characters like the Oldest Man and Mr. Tudball, whose accent he has said was inspired by his Romanian mother. He was known to ad-lib his sketches — even surprising his scene partners — and won a Golden Globe Award for the series in 1976, along with Emmys in 1973, 1977 and 1978.

I grew up watching him in the many Disney films he starred and is a certainly a comedy legend in my book! RIP Tim!

Incredibly funny man. I enjoyed his work, first on local TV in Cleveland, following him all the way. RIP, and thank you.

Back in the heyday of the Carol Burnett Show I was convinced Tim Conway was the funniest person in the world. RIP

I seem to recall Conway saying that harvey put his kids through school with their ongoing bet on the Carol burnett show of making the other laugh.

I loved his skits in which he would play a "short" person by being on both knees (inside shoes,) with the rest of his legs hidden behind him. Funny skits. I think he did a horse jockey skit like that and a golf skit like that too (Dorf.)

RIP. One of my favorite funnymen while growing up.

I'm so used to thinking of him on the Carol Burnett Show, I'd forgotten all about him on the PT-73. Peggy Lipton, Doris Day and now Tim Conway, RIP to all of you.

  17. RIP. Absolutely one of my favorite Comedians. Watched the CB show faithfully back in the day. I was just about on the floor several times, especially when HK was having such a hard time keeping it together.

    A sad day indeed......

Thanks for all the great laughs and memories.

Man, the dude was a childhood hero to me when he was on Mchale's Navy! I remember what a huge deal it was when the original movie came out. To see 'the boy's' up on the big screen, in color no less, felt like an 'event'! RIP
