I will say "Washington State", especially Northwest of Washington State.

    1. The home electricity cost is low so you can play A class power amplifier with less cost.

    https://www.electricchoice.com/blog/state-profiles-highestlowest-electric-rates/

2, It is not very hot during summer on West side of Washington State.

Even with occasional hot temperature during daytime, it cool down to around 50 degree during evening.

Thus you can play music without noise of air conditioner.

    3. There are some high end shop around Seattle area.

With this respect, I prefer New York or Los Angeles area to Seattle.

It is not that bad around Seattle.

    4. The cost to maintain spacious listening room is relatively low.

Since it is not that cold during winter or not too hot during summer on West side of Washington State, it cost less to keep spacious listening room at comfortable temperature.

Property tax is also reasonable unless you live close to downtown of Seattle.

    5. No state Tax

It is good for retired people.

On the other hand, gas price is pretty high in Washington State.

Thus you tend to spend more time at home rather than driving outside.

    Haha!:p

I welcome your input on this topic, ladies and gentlemen.

The Puget Sound is probably my most favorite place on earth, as I grew up there. But I can't imagine it would be the best place on earth for audiophiles. I imagine a plot of land between Oxford and London would be ideal... at least in my daydreams it is ideal.

Ah, but you've got a sales tax. Sales tax on new Wilson speakers and new Dan D’Agostino amps would be quite a hit to the pocket. Come down to Oregon and save. No sales tax.

I have homes in ID & CA (& UK).

Boise is lower cost to buy LPs & elec to run the hifi is much cheaper than Santa Barbara/CA (LPs in LA sometimes as low as Idaho but usually not). Equipment similar costs in both states.

Boise is similar cost to the UK for both LPs & elec. All European brand hifi generally cheaper in UK (if Brexit ever happens probably not....)

Pretty sure it's not here in Oz.

Hot in summer, too removed from resources and bad exchange rate.

I like the region just down the hall from the rec room, down in my basement. Very hospitable, with comfy chairs. ;)

But you know, the mid-Atlantic is pretty good. Most of it is within an hours drive of a decent shop. City dwellers are closer to the action, generally.

I suspect, though do not know, that the West Coast is richer in options.

And their stereo systems are TOTL... and tones of LPs/CDs.

Agreed: the cost of living is crazy, everything is SO expensive ($7 for a beer or cup of coffee), you need an 'American Express Gold card' just to ride in a taxi, and their living spaces are 'tight', very small, and expensive.

I really hate threads like this... We already have some of the worst traffic anywhere in the country, and its only getting worse as more people move in and local governments refuse to build more roads.

Because of hard traffic, it is better to stay at home enjoying nice music in Pacific Northwest.:D

Tennessee, good local music scene. No State income tax, relatively cheap hydro power. Short winter.

But you have such great mountain bike trails and hiking trails. Can't stay housebound tied to the stereo.
(I am not advocating that people visit Washington to go mountain biking and cause more road congestion to drive to all of the trails, but you should)

That works OK when you are far enough out of the city not to notice all of the homeless encampments and people who are crapping all over the city streets, and leaving their infected needles all over the sidewalks. Seattle is not the beautiful city that it used to be. This area has really gone downhill over the past 10 years. And Seattle's problems are spreading quickly to the rest of western Washington as more people continue to move in.

Great Hiking, biking, boating, Fishing, hunting, motorcycling and sports car routes in NE Tennessee! Skyline drive and AT are within an hour plus or minus a couple of minutes. Traffic, whats that? My family loves it here! Like dying and going to heaven compared to NY...

10% sales tax in Washington. :(

I've bought more than a few components in Portland ...

No Audio Note dealers here. (Yes yes, one in Victoria, but getting there a pain for me.)

While the cost of living is high in California, there are a lot of us out here. It’s easy to buy and sell used gear just using craigslist. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet others and listen to different setups, something that folks in most other places rarely get the opportunity to do.

Tennessee is not that bad overall except that it has fewer high end store around it.

Is not it hot over there during summer?
