    From what I have in my collection - let's see . . .
Originally ish'd in the US on Harvest before they were transferred in that country to Capitol.

    The original issue:

Then after it was remixed and revamped (this variant I have):

Finally, after it (and they) went to Capitol:

Unlike the 1974 version issued in the UK on Dawn and in the US on Island, this re-recording did not have a US equivalent release.

When I was in Hi-Fi retail, a Court legal secretary turned up for a dem, dressed for her job. The first LP she pulled out for the dem was Master Of Puppets. :D

Fair comment. Although I wouldn't say I like the record, the heart is definitely in the right place, and it is a good tune.

Fortunately the lyrics aren't "of their time", unlike Melting Pot.

There couldn't have been a party on the day of the European Song Contest as I remember watching it.

When Nicole starting singing this, the performance seemed remarkably wholesome and it seemed highly unlikely that either the dress would be ripped off, or that lovely white guitar smashed. It is also seemed evident after she performed it that the song had a very good chance of winning.

A Little Love hit the top spot whilst I was on block release at college, the song I remember hearing a lot was:

Another great song. I love the arrangement on the PhD song. :agree:

I thought I´d buy the album on CD. Soon changed my mind when I saw the prices...

It rarely seems to appear on '80's compilations, but is on Friends Reunited. :righton:

I have the song on a great-sounding compilation called "THE GREATEST LOVE", from 1988. The track list is fairly strong for a compilation like this, though there are perhaps two songs I´d drop... As mentioned, this was the first time I came across a really good-sounding compilation on CD.

I remember it was quite a big thing at the time, wondering what the 500th Number 1 would be. In retrospect it would have been better if Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder had got it. We were all bitterly disappointed when it turned out to be Nicole. It is a harmless enough song but really, it should have been something a bit more contemporary than this. It would have been nice for maybe Yazoo to nab it, or for Ebony and Ivory to hold on until Madness could have taken over.

As it was, Nicole got it and no-one really cared anymore..

That is a really good collection of songs, though I have never heard of Double.

I am sure you have heard this track. Double had only one big song, really. It was this one. Lovely, moody song. Very 80s, in some ways. I love this one.

I think very few people have such a recollection. "Faceless" is the word invented for them. But they were good.

I was listening to it from the video and my wife asked why I was playing that horrible song! She remembered the song name, but couldn't remember the band name: as her memory of music from this period is generally rather impressive, you may have a point!

I found a copy of Double's album a few years ago and got it for $2. It should have been called "The Captain Of Her Heart and 7 other songs..."

Agree that "Captain" hit it big, on the radio also the closing tune "Tomorrow" had a good airplay.

For the early-pressing oddities collectors, the european Polydor CD had a custom label...

    I got it in '86.

So many great singles...that we will pick out and highlight....as we go along. Hopefully more will enjoy discovering these songs with us....in some cases, for the first time.

    A little peace
Spirit of Woodstock? It's a fine line between lovely and phoney with this kind of songs, but this is just lovely, and Nicole seems totally sincere about it. Uplifting in the "I'd like to teach the world to sing" kind of way. I liked the German language version even better. Fitting that this comes up now that the Eurovision is going on at the moment. It's a timeless kind of song that wouldn't be out of place in the contest any year.

My English fails me. What's a dem?
