The line of defense of post-grunge bands is usually "no! They don't sound like Nirvana!". I'm always like, sure, they also rip off other bands depending on the song. There's this band called Dandelion that even ripped off Mudhoney on their first album.

People always say Silverchair NEVER sounded like Nirvana. Sure, this doesn't sound like Nirvana at ALL.
They're a fine example of what I was saying. Some songs sound like Pearl Jam, one sounds like Mad Season, another one like Life Sex and Death ("Freak" = "Tank"). And this is Nirvana, it's pointless to deny it.



Anyway, they were young and went on to better (and more personal) things.

 

When I was a teen in the early to mid-70's I'd hear stuff like that about..

Not at all. They were both keyboard-based, but Left Banke were more baroque, a style The Zombies didn't trade it at all.

They were both great bands in their own right. No need to link them beyond that.

I don't know about debut album release dates, but America's first single hit the charts almost four months prior to the Eagles'. So at least initially, it wouldn't have been possible to make that observation.

 

Klaatu/Pink Floyd/Beatles

Must preference that all are excellent musicians.

The similarities that I see are associated with Klaatu’s music being so obviously influenced by the Beatles, and the bands’ anonymity compared to Floyd. And with PF to the Fabs, primarily IMHO, on how much the bass/melody line of the song ‘Eclipse’ resembles that of ‘I Want You’.

Always thought of Bob Seger as a poor man’s Bruce Springsteen. For whatever it’s worth, not a fan of either guy.

 

I've never met anyone that agrees with me. It's very specific but this hit single by German band Liquido has always reminded me of The Rentals (Weezer's Matt Sharp's side project).
