I'm wondering what I was listening to as other than Devils haircut and the Paula Cole song it was none of those. I'm guessing UK was very different at that time ?

    Sorry about that, folks.

[Re: Jewel, Who Will Save Your Soul, according to Wikipedia: A commercial single of Who Will Save Your Soul was released in the United States in 1996. It became her first hit single, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.]

But let's throw in this to offset my prior errors :)

Ah looked up UK top 100 from 96 and I would have been listening to Oasis, Prodigy, Bluetones, Ocean Colour Scene with the top pop bit for me being Fugees

Bittersweet Symphony: Urban Hymns/The Verve was actually released September 30, 1997. o_O
Maybe (UK) you were listening to Suede Coming Up...that lp/cd was released in '96 & there are excellent songs off that release which could've been included & maybe others' will add. Spice Girls' are listed! :) Didn't realize while composing list that it was US-tilted. (I listen to music both sides of the pond; sometimes, depending on year, or decade, it will just lean more heavily one over the other.) My main goal was to include various genre's. This is how good '96 was; that there are still other choices out there!!:thumbsup:

List is songs which were released in '96....songs that were released in '95 could've still been charting. Had to define somehow, or list would be endless (or, maybe not; I think poll's may be limited to 25 choices). Anyhow, that's why Oasis is missing from list.

You’ve got Celine in twice. It wasn’t that good.:D

To be honest, 1996 is a bit late for me and I admit not recalling a few of the songs here. The ones I picked were Celine and the 2 Sheryl Crow songs. I really liked the latter’s album the singles came from.

Whenever I do these things I use EveryHit...

    RetroCharts - everyHit.com

Then I command a top 100 citing Early January through late December.

I'm glad Bittersweet Symphony wasn't in it - can't bear it!
