    Andreas,

Do you mind if I add your MP3 sample to the wiki?

I bet that one song gave the entire RCA CDs a bad name.

    Thanks Darcy. :)

Incidentally, we're going to have a few more West German samples up there soon. I think Dave registered... if you need help uploading, let me know! :righton:

Here's another one for comparison (please upload to the wikispace above):
Golden Years from the German RCA "Station To Station" CD (PD81327). Much different from the Japanese variant.

Now that you mentioned it... I went to check my Bowie RCA cds and only 2 of them mention West Germany: Ziggy Startdust and Young Americans, and only on the Booklet/Back cover (with Made In Germany printed on the cds).

I'm still SUPER confused on the W.G. vs. Japan RCA's.
    A little help, please!

We're trying to work that out right now. On the above link to the Wiki, there are samples from all my RCA discs. Some are Japanese and some are West German (I have no duplicate titles, so I'm hoping others here can post samples. Then we can evaluate all of them and make some good recommendations.

It is beginning to appear to me that Japan and West Germany used different tapes. I'm sure others already knew that, but I was always under the assumption that they were the same. Obviously, the differences between the West German and Japanese Hunky Dory discs demonstrate a huge difference in quality, with the West German disc being from a better tape.

So the short answer is... we don't know yet! :) Unless somebody has done all the comparisons already and would like to chime in...

I think it's been concluded previously that the Japan Ziggy Stardust is better than the German.

I have Japan and German Pin Ups, and cannot hear any significant differences, both sound good to me.

Hmm, no offense, but have you checked if the disc label of your German Pin-Ups actually says Made in Germany? Because mine doesn't. It says Made in Japan.:shh:

No offense taken, I checked and you are right. The Printed in Germany cover contains a made in Japan CD, and so does the Printed in USA package.

Different label designs, German packaged CD is standard european silver /grey RCA early label, USA packaged CD has blue ring around the edge.
Both manufactured in the same country, no wonder I can't hear a difference!

If I remember correctly one is mastered "louder" than the other.

:agree: Yes, that is me Keith. Kind of busy right now, but will give it a try as soon as I have a spare couple of hours or so. I see others have now noticed the albums where the PD catalog number is in fact a Japan for Europe pressing. Keep up the great work guys!

 My guess is that all of the German RCA's of Pin-Ups were made in Japan. All of the ones (around 10 or so) that I have seen, has been made there.

BTW, has anyone here ever seen a German RCA of Aladdin Sane that was actually made in Germany? I haven't.

My German Pin ups and Aladdin Sane are also made in Japan. As is my ChangesOneBowie (does this title also had W. Germany discs?)

I want to mention again that all my 10 Bowie RCA CDs are "Made In Germany" (including the Changesonebowie), not "W. Germany". Two of them mention "Printed In W. Germany" on the back cover.

Oh yeah, that's right. Made in Germany without any W on the discs. Do you remember which cds have W Germany on the back cover, Andreas?
(mine are Ziggy Startdust and Young Americans, as I also mentioned before)

Funny thing as I thought they are all from the W. Germany time?

I just looked: Ziggy, Young Americans and Fame And Fashion.
It was still Germany. We never called ourselves "West Germans" before 1990. :)
