Most of my favourite films are European and could name several. In comedy I recommend Good by Lenin!, thiller: Mesrine, L'instinct de la mort, drama: After the wedding...

There are so many. I have always loved The 400 Blows and La Grande Illusion and Cinema Paradiso, sentimental though it is, gets me every time.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (it was filmed in Spain by an Italian director, with a score by an Italian composer, three American actors, and an Italian supporting cast, so yeah, it counts.)

This raises the old question, what makes [film title] from [country]. Personally, and FWIW Wikipedia agrees, I would classify The Exterminating Angel as a Mexican production. It’s not like Buñuel simply took a French or Spanish crew to Mexico for a jaunt. He had been living there for a long while by this point, and was very much a part of the Mexican film industry. The financing, the key production staff, the majority of the actors, pretty much everything about this film is Mexican, other than the birthplace of the director.

    Director was European I guess.

It’s not generally what counts when determining these things. It’s where the production (not the filming) originates.

Hence Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo is a West German production, despite being filmed in South America.

Nagra? Is the RTR film crews use.

It‘s been awhile since I seen the film in cinema, 1981 to be exact, memory blip.
