(LP Prestige Victor Japan "Prestige Jazz Masterpiece Series" SMJ-6560) 1977 .... recorded March 26th, 1958 .... John Coltrane (ts) + Red Garland (p)+ Paul Chambers (b) + Art Taylor (dr) .... over the years both Coltrane`s Quartet trilogy and his four Quintet recordings with Miles Davis for Prestige (aka Cookin'/Relaxin'/Workin'/Steamin') grew very dear to my heart ..... although it is obvious him being on the verge for a journey to different spheres these Prestige recordings stand alone are of sheer class .... stirring and indispensable ....

5 by MONK by 5 - Thelonious Monk Quintet (OJC/Riverside) CD
Recorded 1959. Digitally remastered in 1989 by Phil De Lancie.

Crucial Monk album! There are two extra tracks on the CD edition not included on the original LP - Played Twice (take 1) & Played Twice (take 2).

(LP Vee Jay Records Teichiku Records Japan UXP-93-JY) 1977 .... recorded in October 11th, 1960 @ Universal Recorder Chicago .... Wayne Shorter (ts) + Cedar Walton (p) + Bob Cranshaw (b) + Art Blakey (dr) .... stunning how evolved Wayne Shorter was - both as gifted composer and performer - at this rather early stage of his career .... and the superb rhythm section (Cedar Walton !!) is dealing .... probably Wayne Shorter`s strongest outing for Vee Jay ....

DOWN HERE ON THE GROUND - WES MONTGOMERY (Verve Originals/CTi/A&M) CD
Recorded 1967/68 and issued on A&M LP in 1968. The 2009 Verve Originals CD edition was digitally mastered by Kevin Reeves and issued in triple gate-fold digipak.

Some nice tasty guitar pickin' here and there, but unfortunately not enough of it. There is some pleasant orchestration too. It's probably best listened to if you are in the mood for some tasty middle of the road/easy listening muzak.

I can't help thinking that the hand to head photo of Wes is an indicator of his feelings about the Down On The Ground sessions.

Those Blue Notes weren't EPs, they were 10" LPs (note the BLP prefix), a new format back in the day, before 12" LPs replaced them.

Alright. . Afro Cuban is my only "small LP" so far, by the way.

So back to 12 inch with Blue Note BLP 1513 - original first US Mono pressing from 1956,.
Another flea market bargain for five Euros, though the Vinyl & Cover condition unfortunately only VG , conservatively graded :kilroy:

It seems they are not seeing these replies. Or if they are, that they don’t understand how to fix the issue. Sorry to say I’ve ignored this user until they figure it out.

Milestone/Galaxy/Original Jazz Classics (2002) - A great sampler of 11 tracks dating 1966-79 from the Orrin Keepnews vault. Not too proud to say I picked this up for $1.99. Not all samplers are worth even that, but this one inspired me to buy several of the collections featured here.
