    Am I the only one?

I seem to have no penchant for audio stored on a computer.Don' t get me wrong...I love streaming, but when I find something I like while streaming,I buy the physical product i.e. CD or vinyl.Mostly vinyl these days because I almost always prefer that vinyl sound. Many new releases contain a download card.I don't throw the cards away but I also can't be bothered to download.

Maybe I am way too old school.

You're far from the only one. Download cards typically have less than a 20% redemption rate.

I keep them around to shim turntables. Other than that they are a menace.

I largely do....but, for different reasons, as I have drives full of my whole wall of CDs ripped and HDTracks purchases....even some vinyl rips.

    I don't give a **** about some mp3s. I don't use mp3s even for small "phone over cell network" play--I use mp4.

They would get me a to buy a LOT more vinyl if it included a choice for the HD files. Because then--I could know when I spend $29 that I will get the best sounding version being released. Might be the vinyl....might be the HD....but, either way, the price of an album is $29. Rather than....$15....then maybe $29 more....

I use them 80% of the time, unless I already have a good rip of the record.
I need ‘em for the car!

I always DL it. For re-issues if it's not a unique mastering I delete it.

I stopped using them a couple of years ago but I do keep the cards as I’m OCD. I stream Apple Music in my car and listen to LPs at home.

I keep the cards but don't use them. Download cards may disappear at some point, and if so, they might be an interesting artifact to keep with LPs from this particular period.

Always redeem them if they are flac or wav. In my limited experience the files are not ripped from a cd and not clipped/maximized, in other words, the best source really. This is al least true for Domino Records.

They make handy last minute gifts for millennials. I'm pretty sure they take one look and think "Oh great, physical media... " and toss it in the trash.

I've bought 10 year old secondhand LPs that have working download cards shoved into the sleeve. The only one to have expired was that Dylan triple Sinatra thing.

I can’t believe that this is considered “old school”, but I am old school in that I want every album I buy to be in my digital library so I can add it to playlists and play in the car, on the plane and so on.

When albums come with a DL code (yes, even if it’s only MP3), this is perfect for me. When they don’t, I end up spending £20 on the vinyl and then another £8-9 on buying it from iTunes. Which means it costs 3 times as much as buying the CD instead of just twice as much. :realmad:

I ignore them because I do my own vinyl rips that sound a lot better to me.

The few times I've tried redeeming a download card the tracks have sounded like rubbish (the worst was the downloadable tracks for Joe Walsh's Analog Man album, ironically enough - a brickwalled earbleed horror).

I normally use them, but there are some where I already own a CD that I have ripped and then I'll share them with a mate.

Feel free to PM me any unused codes :uhhuh:

I put them in a digital Walkman and walk with them. I also burn them to CD for special occasions. However, I respect your resolve to avoid them.

Pretty much the same for me ... though I wouldn't buy a download, but may well buy the CD as well !

If it gives Hires files, it's an immediate download.
If it gives 16/44 lossless files, I download only if I don't have the files already on my music server.
    If it's mp3 I don't even bother.
