This is a play on the "Cover Versions We Don't Need" thread except these are covers that are so different and unique from the original we really, really needed them. Post your favorites!

 

Local H - "Toxic" This turns Britney's dance pop song into a great hard rock rave up.

 

I want Lindsey Buckingham back in Fleetwood Mac and covering this song...

 

The Dollyrots - "Brand New Key" Turns Melanie's simple folk tune into great pop punk.

 

Al Kooper - "Sam Stone" Great rockin' take on the old John Prine song.

 

If I could bring Husker Du back from the dead, I’d get them to cover “Surrender” by Cheap Truck. Bob Mould has covered it live, which indicates how good a Du version could’ve been.

 

Kathryn Edwards - "All Apologies" Very spooky, ethereal version of Nirvana's classic.

It’s the first one I thought of, it’s just superb. I believe even Trent Reznor has been quoted as saying it’s better than his original version.

I know I will be in the minority here, but I prefer this version.

 

The Who’s version of Summertime Blues is the penultimate version in my humble opinion.
