There's a typo that actually makes as much sense as the correct word. I know my time estimate seems high, but it's a good deal of work you're taking on. Also, don't neglect the bzfgt syndrome factor in compiling the responses for each matchup.
Yea this is good. My notes on this are "they really dig into this one and tear it up! The music skitters, becomes more agitated and dissonant, and the band takes it into a nice mass freakout that fades into Drums." I can add it. Lemme post the list now...
The Best Meltdowns Ever - This is the list (timestamps appreciated) ** For NCAA-Style Tourament ** Meltdown defined loosely similar as a Tiger Jam, or neither a particular riff or a vague meltdown, but rather a specific vehicle employed to explore the more explosive experimental music that the band had gotten into. it was a distinct jam that, despite it's atonal and seemingly formless nature, had all of the band members playing relatively consistent roles and parts every time- most notably garcia's wailing and descending wah phrases and phil's distorted chords. Should be short burts from 2-4 minutes. e.g. an entire feedback probably doesn't count Internet Archive Forums: Tiger Jam Internet Archive Forums: Tiger Jam/Meltdown Riff Internet Archive Forums: Scare me please... We should take out 3 then we are set. (edit: or there are three "play-in slots" kind of like the real tournament). I'll probably make a new thread out of this. And I'm also probably just going to randomly seed these...know what I mean? I mean we all got real jobs and stuff
If doing 32 get it to 32 rather than any play-in would be my suggestion, I think we have enough to work with already. I'd say for a tournament like this I wouldn't go nuts worrying about seeding. If you focused on maybe the top 8 or better 16 but only if it was all pretty obvious to you; separate them throughout your brackets, then the rest just pretty random should do it. If you are half decent with Excel you are more than welcome to my spreadsheet that may make it easier to run just PM me.
Did anyone go to the Phil shows the other night with jorma. The track I saw on YouTube was a trainwreck. I heard they were sloppy and unrehearsed. I think i saw a few posts about this earlier.
In my brief career, the Dark Star that has moved me the most is 9/21/72. A half hour plus, and there's nothing close to a boring moment. And those last 10 minutes or so .... wow.
This took me under 1 hour to do (and most of that was fiddling around with the background graphic...) note this is a sample! LOL Just do this 4 times and I'll make a master one too. Pretty easy! Sucks you can't directly upload an image or file to this site? I have to upload this to a server (this is at tinypic.com)
Does everybody have access to 8/25/72 - TOO (24:30 - end, not on archive.org, only with DaP 24) There are only incomplete versions on archive.org. So (as far as I know) you have to have DaP 24 to hear this. I'm trying to take away 3 of the 35.
I'm listening to the full show today, I'm actually right in the middle of the Tiger (where oblivious Bobby tries to play the Spanish jam before giving in to the chaos) as I type this.
That is a shame, I saw Jorma with PnF`s in 1999 and he was great with them (Barton Hall, Cornell U.). Jorma did a great "Mr. Charlie" then.
I went through the entire list again, and tightened up many of the timestamps. Had 35...I think I'm going to dump 8/21/72, 8/25/72, and 4/2/73. RE: 8/21, there just isn't a good short sequence that kind of fits the bill. maybe right around 16:30, but it's extremely short and the rest of it is too long....despite it being a great dark star overall. 8/25 I fear about access issues. I don't see any sources besides Dave's Picks 24, and 4/2 after relistening to it probably falls out due to not actually fulfilling the criteria. I've picked out the top 8 for seeding purposes...so we don't have these match up together in the early rounds. 4/8, 5/13, 8/24, 11/13, 12/2, 12/19, 3/23, 7/29. Oops I left off the years. I'll post this in the next 2-3 days. I just got called in to work for sick call which blows. So I'm working 22 hours total in the next 2 days BOO.
I saw Jorma with Phil up in New Hampshire on that tour. It was a great show, but Jorma seemed a bit uncomfortable. He didn't really fit in as well as some of Phil's "friends" but he did deliver a great version of "Good Shepherd".
Scarlet>Fire 7/7/78. While all 77-78 S>F are worthy, this one's not especially grabbing me. Jerry's vocal is weak; difficulty for a smoker at altitude?
Here is a sneak preview! I'm going to check it over for errors later and post it soon in a new thread For what it's worth...this is basically random. The Jack and Jill bracket is the toughest!!! I will go over it to prevent any btfgxzt! errors
