Perhaps they should get off of the James Bond "action movie" mentality and have his character go back to being a highly trained and intelligent spy, like James bond was originally?

Maybe not so many injuries on the set?

Craig has been injured in pretty much all the Bond films he's done. It comes with the territory of trying to do as many of the stunts and fight scenes as he can. That's why they pay him the big bucks.

Prior to Bond, he wasn't really know at all and wasn't making those big bucks. Bond has not been a bad gig for him, considering.

    F.Y.I.

He played as an uncredited Storm Trooper in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

Think the only two actors that played James Bond and had a subsequent interesting career afterwards were Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan.

Yea, George Lazenby left the franchise after appearing as James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Seems he didn't want to be type case in the roll.

As it turns out, that was something he didn't have to worry about.

I knew him from Spielberg's Munich, which came out the year prior to Casino Royale. Really disliked Munich, although it wasn't Craig's fault, and his performance was good. My buddy recommended Layer Cake, but that didn't appeal to me either. I did like Defiance, although that came out after he was 007.

he's had some very good roles since then. nothing huge, but he's more of a theatrical actor anyway i think. he was ace in "penny dreadful".

Brosnan is also a very nice man in real life. I worked peripherally on a documentary a few years ago about a Malibu performing arts theater that he supports, and he came in for an hour interview and was as nice, professional, and articulate as you could imagine. I was very surprised by how strong his Irish brogue comes across in person -- he definitely does not speak like the very-British James Bond. Brosnan got a raw deal from Eon Productions -- I think he was fully capable of doing at least two more films as Bond in his early 50s; he was only 52 when they replaced him with Daniel Craig.

They had wanted to cast him at a much younger age when he was working in the TV series Remington Steele.

I think this would have been a bad idea.

He did not have that rugged edge and was too young looking and too associated with his TV personality at the time.

That was just not working for me as a "james Bond" image.

Fortunately, the studio would not let him out of his contract and his James Bond career had to be put on hold for a number of years.

I think this turned out to be a good thing and, with a little bit more age on him and the TV series in the past, he went on to play a good 007.

Brosnan certainly deserved to go out with a better film than Die Another Day, which was a good film at the beginning, but in the second half it degenerated into absurd CGI orgy in that made Moonraker seem grounded in reality.

And it was still a huge worldwide hit!!
