The thread title is fairly self explanatory...reminiscing back to the days when theatres used to show double features, mostly at drive-ins. Here’s a William Hurt “double-feature”, two favorite films of mine from the early 80s. Body Heat Altered States
Beyond the fact that both star William Hurt, I see nothing logical about these choices. A better choice would be another dramatic Hurt film presumably in a similar genre or with a similar feel. I can't think of any two filmmakers less alike than Larry Kasdan and Ken Russell but, hey, it's your thread.
Some days my favorite movie is Contact , I would pair it with Paul. Other days my favorite is Moonrise Kingdom...the second feature would be Stand By Me.
I'd be hard-pressed to pair another film with Contact, as it's a personal favorite. But, I might go with Arrival. Moonrise is a touching film, with a David-E.-Kelley-esque quality about it, being about principles and all; but I'd couple it with Aisle Of Dogs, myself. Good pairings, though!
A new refreshing thread, so lets see, I will do 3 1.My favorite Western from my favorite actor, director during its making Marlon Brando "One Eyed Jacks" with feature #2 Sam Peckinpahs "Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid"... 2 perfect drive in features during 1973 only difference was PG&BTK was new & got top billing 2.Blow Up! (1966) & Performance (1970) are 2 perfect historical time capsules of London's Swinging 60's... Viewed both of these together during 1970 & just like above post "Performance" was new & got top billing 3.2001: A Space Oddysey (1968) & Metropolis (1927) Kubrick & Lang both geniuses, same premise different decade, this is how I view them at home...sublime
Let's zombificate your summer, with Simon Pegg in Shawn Of The Dead, then 28 Days Later as a bit of a palette cleanser (or, more Simon Pegg in either a Mission Impossible or a JJ Abrams Trek vehicle).
I was going to pick This Island Earth, but went for Paul instead to balance out the seriousness of Contact.
Howabout let's go with the Mouse House, and follow up Moana with The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Or, pix a pair of Pixars: Wall-e and Ratatouille. Miyazaki would be proud to pair up The Red Turtle and The Wind Rises, even though he had nothing to do with the first one really (alternate followup: Howl's Moving Castle ; I've been over-spirited away to go with the obvious choice ).
Ed Wood with The Disaster Artist. Two odes to so bad it’s good filmmakers. The Blues Brothers with Animal House. Both Belushi/Landis comedy films.
The Sunshine Boys My Favorite Year High Anxiety Silent Movie Silverado Pale Rider Hud The Last Picture Show Dave The American President Of Mice and Men (1992) The Green Mile The Odd Couple Cactus Flower Fletch Seems Like Old Times
The Perfect Storm The Finest Hours Weather exhaustion should set in after viewing these 2 back to back.
Bullitt Dirty Harry Similar time period, crime drama's, both take place in San Francisco, same soundtrack composer, 2 fantastic male leads.
I do this almost every Sunday. Here’s a few. Deliverance/Rituals Rio Bravo/Assault On Precinct 13 Night Of The Creeps/Slither
