Great album. I predict Song For Europe and Mother of Pearl will top. My other vote was for Street Life

It was the first Roxy Studio album that I purchased after listening to a best of and I was amazed at the diversity, over 8 tracks you have got Rock,Funk,Gospel and just great a atmosphere to the whole record.

The first Roxy Music album i owned was Greatest Hits where Mother Of Pearl sequenced into Song For Europe which was to these ears the perfect transition . Sunset makes up my favoured trilogy.

I agree, it does work better. On my home made Roxy compilation, I have Mother Of Pearl sequenced straight into Whirlwind (from 'Siren') and that sounds pretty powerful.

Just Like You is a beautiful love song and the lyric is one of Ferry’s best - pure poetry.

Street Life and Mother of Pearl round out my top three.

Love the geetar solo on 'Amazona' - sounds like it's being squeezed out of a sponge.

Hard to choose 3 but still remember Scott Muni’s Things From England show ushering in Street Life and my entrance to Roxy- a near perfect album - as was their total output practically through Siren.
The sublime introspection and wisdom of the album endures.

Easily Roxy's finest album. The first two titles are great but I've always though the Eno era was overrated. In fact, Stranded is Eno's favourite Roxy Music album too...LOL. Eddie Jobson was the perfect replacement for Eno, as he was (and still is) a far superior multi-instrumentalist & musician. And then of course, Frank Zappa stole Jobson from Roxy after the completion of the Siren tour in 1976...:nyah:

Such a strong album. I absolutely adore Just Like You, one of Ferry’s prettiest love songs with a guitar solo to die for... but it still doesn’t quite make my top three !
Because Stranded has the full on power and the exotic glory that is Amazona. What a guitar solo! Thrilling stuff.
And then over on side two theRe is the devastatingly wonderful A Song For Europe, Ferry alone by the Seine, lost in wonder, muttering in French, Andy Mackay hitting a career best on the saxophone.
Followed by the two in one song Mother Of Pearl. Manzanera’s storming opening part, vocals coming at you from all angles then calming down for the lengthy second part. And full marks for the sarcastic questioning backing vocal on the line ‘Well I’ve been up all (again?)’ which slays me every time. So so good.
    What an album.

Street Life / Amazona / Mother of Pearl, with Just Like You close behind. For all of their sonic experimentation, my favorite thing about Roxy Music will always be Ferry’s vocal melodies, and Mother of Pearl and Just Like You are up there with Beauty Queen and More Than This in that category for me.

Mother Of Pearl might just be Roxy's greatest song, period.

Pretty easy—the first 3 tracks on the record are my favorite. The album kinda nosedives after that, just IMO (“Mother Of Pearl” is a good track, however).
