Exactly that really. What would Kurt Cobain have made of Oasis?

From interviews that Cobain gave I kind of got the idea that he hated the entire hair metal scene because of the way the musicians acted. You couldn't get any more obnoxious than the Gallagher bros.

Excellent thread idea. It's been said that Oasis had their main era between the passings of Kurt Cobain in 1994 and Princess Diana in 1997.

In my opinion Kurt would have dug the power pop/glam rock/FM classic rock radio sound of the first two Oasis albums. He wouldn't have liked the Oasis brother's attitude. Kurt Cobain had a tender artist's heart so he would have been turned off by that.

Imo Kurt would have had a few more hits of smack and not cared about anything else .

Cobain would judge Oasis more on their music than their obnoxiousness I'd guess.

A "corporate rock" band fronted by two a**holes? Yea, he would have loved them.

Kurt was a big Beatles fan, so likely would have seen Noels talent. And his daughter would have insisted, she loves Oasis :D

I was just wondering as Dave Grohl seems to like Oasis quite a lot. Is that an indication perhaps an indication that Kurt would perhaps also liked Oasis, or were Kurt and Dave cut from a different cloth?

They were cut from a different cloth hence it became part of the breakup rumors that swirled around Nirvana towards the end. He was more in line with Krist Novoselic. Nirvana was into Brit punk from the 70s though as they toured with the at times obnoxious Buzzcocks.

I think that, knowing Kurt's influences were all over the musical map, he might have originally liked Oasis's music but I'm pretty sure that he would have been highly unimpressed by the brothers Gallagher's shenanigans. It might not have changed his opinion on their music though.

Well, as evidence for what Kurt would like, this seems like pretty thin Grohl.

    I'm sorry, I am a terrible person.

Oasis wrote I want to live forever, in response to Nirvanas I hate myself and want to die.

A bunch of guys from a council estate playing Beatles and Pistols inspired rock and roll (when neither was the thing to do at the time) are “corporate rock”?

I'm pretty sure he would have hated them. He was a big fan of British indie music but things much more unique and individual. I don't think anyone who was a big fan of the Slits, Raincoats and Young Marble Giants would like dumbed down second hand lad rock.

If the thread was "What would John Lennon have thought about Oasis?" we would be on part 6 of the thread by now.
