Was listening to these guys today, it has been such a long time. These guys were so poetic. Great Lyrics.

    Pages turn
    My stare burns
    The conflict of logic
    The crowd stands in awe

    Screen in a speakeasy
    A man in black
    We've addressed many times
    And call on now

    Thought occurs
    I've been here before
    Hear his words
    I've seen him somewhere
    The vision haunts
    I know him somehow
    As I tear my mind
    I've been here before

    Never has power risen so
As we lay our bodies to the butcher called
    Patriotism
Another shot heard round the world
    But this time, literally
As I fall slain by faith
I can almost hear liberty say
I have loved just this once
But have lived and died many times

    History books
    We were so young
    We were so strong
    That's what they taught us

    Baring in mind
    It's only a book
I close it and walk out
    Wide eyes and all

    Think out loud

    Straight from Wiki

    Saccharine Trust
is an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1980 by singer Jack Brewer and guitarist Joe Baiza. The band would frequently perform with SST labelmates Minutemen and Black Flag.[2] However, Baiza described Saccharine Trust as the "black sheep" of the SST roster.[1] Drummer Rob Holzman appeared on their 1981 debut Paganicons but left the band to play in Slovenly, replaced by drummer Tony Cicero. After a ten-year hiatus circa 1986 to 1996, the band re-formed and began performing around the West Coast.

    We don't need freedom
    We don't need freedom
Freedom is what ruined your brain
    With creativity drugs and pain
Freedom is what let you run wild
Explain freedom to your fatherless child
    We don't need freedom
    Do we now
    Freedom preaches disobedience
    Idiot rebellion false allegiance
    Pride waste lust and greed
We're free to obey all of these
    Comfortably that's how we'll be
Enough for you plenty for me
We won't need actors or rock stars
All we'll want is farmers and soldiers
    We don't need freedom
    We don't need freedom
    We don't need freedom
    We don't need do we

    Great Band I have...the

Two of my post-punk favourites from the UK that haven’t been mentioned yet, I think are The Chameleons, more on the melodic side, and In Camera, similar to PIL and Killing Joke, at times. ‘Fatal Day’ by them is truly immense.

I'll have to check out In Camera, not familiar with them. Script of the Bridge is the only one I'm familiar with when it comes to The Chameleons, do they have another release you can rec?

Like a lot of these UK punk/post-punk acts, their best work is the Peel Sessions compilation. A bit rawer than the albums.

Here is my list of what I consider to be the best post-punk (or at least influenced by 70's/80's post-punk) album from each year of the previous decade 2000-2009:

    2000 - Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows
2001 - The Strokes - Is This It
2002 - Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
2003 - British Sea Power - The Decline Of British Sea Power
    2004 - Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
    2005 - Editors - The Back Room
    2006 - Forward Russia - Give Me A Wall
2007 - The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters
    2008 - I don't have one yet - suggestions? I'll just list two for 2009
2009 - White Lies - To Lose My Life
    2009 - The Horrors - Primary Colours

Everything the Chameleons recorded in their original run is worth buying. The 2nd and 3rd albums don't have the best production, but they have some great songs. You can patch together an alternate "raw" version of the 2nd album by getting the Peel Sessions and the Radio One Evening Sessions. The former was reissued in recent years but the latter has been OOP for awhile.

Besides the albums, non-album tracks/studio sessions/singles are comp'd on The Fan and the Bellows and reissued on the more recent Dreams in Celluloid 2xCD.

After the Chameleons broke up, the band split into The Sun and the Moon and The Reegs. TSATM actually sounds similar to early Chameleons and is a very underrated album IMHO.

Drove into work tonight, raining hard hear in Portland, listening to this. Not bad for modern stuff (2012) Post Punk feel:

Another lazy "Bio-rip" from Last FM:

Black Marble is one of the latest and greatest additions to the Brooklyn synthwave lexicon. Their stark, alienating textures cloister a vaguely hopeful intensity, like a lone and distant rhythm echoing from the hull of a lost deep sea vessel. Reminiscent of early DIY synth recordings, which pitted emotional undercurrents against wan dystopian landscapes, Black Marble’s sound struggles to squeeze blood from monolithic concrete.

Collaborators Ty Kube and Chris Stewart take their inspiration from a disparate group of past musicians who dared to mix punk ethics with cold electronics, resulting in an enigmatic, handmade style that recalls the isolated-but-uplifting feel of early European minimal and coldwave music. Triumphantly bleak but undeniably infectious, Black Marble's debut EP Weight Against the Door arrives, appropriately, at the height of winter.

Near Mint LPs/CDs run cheap on Discogs. Check 'em out.

Hawkw... Hawklords's "Psi Power" had that new frontier sound. One wonders if they influenced Tubeway Army and Gary Numan.

Am I the only happy person with this fine release of a box set (at cd and at vinyl) around the first album ('Y') of The Pop Group? For all the post punk fans here:

Pop Group / ‘y’ definitive edition | superdeluxeedition

Maybe also interesting for Nick Cave fans. Without The Pop Group there was no Birthday Party and would Nick Cave maybe have started a study in Australia at a catholic seminarium instead of a international musical career. :)

(and I think LCD Soundystem has also listened very well to this band...)

You can nab all their best material on reissued single and double LP 45 RPM vinyl (except Strange times) Avoid any of the 25th anniversary CDs. Home

These actually sound quite good and just reinforce their material wasn't well pressed originally. They were copied by the best but never reached the level of their potential. Mark still tours with younger backup band...just like Gang of Four who deserve an honorable mention too.

And XTC deserve top mention, they really lasted much longer than I think anyone could have imagined. Even a side project for an unknown band with an even more obscure unknown band the Dukes. Their last couple records were very strong...much better than anyone could have anticipated.

Based on an earlier post in this thread, here’s my top 10 post punk records of the 2010s

2010: Merchandise - Strange Songs in the Dark
2011: Total Control - Henge Beat
2012: Slug Guts - Playin in Time With the Deadbeat
2013: His Electro Blue Voice - Ruthless Sperm
2014: Bad Doctors - Burning City
2015: Protomartyr - The Agent Intellect
2016: Jenny Hval - Blood Bitch (not sure if this is technically post punk? It’s definitely inspired by that aesthetic). If that record doesn’t count, I pick Rakta - III
2017: Priests - Nothing Feels Natural
2018: Parquet Courts - Wide Awake
    2019: Black Midi - Schlagenheim
