"On August 30, Rhino will release Chicago Transit Authority (50th Anniversary Remix) on CD and 2-LP, 180-gram vinyl editions, as well as a limited-edition, numbered version of the 2 LP set on gold vinyl available exclusively through Rhino.com. It will also be available through digital and streaming services on the same day. The new remix was created by the band with engineer Tim Jessup, who also mixed the band’s recent Live at the Isle of Wight Festival."

Totally unnecessary imo. Sounds perfect as is.

The rationale for "let's repackage" vs "let's remix" seems to be all over the charts lately.

Have enough of the average consumer really gotten fed up with endless greatest hits packages that the labels think a remix is just the ticket?

I could do without "Free Form Guitar", but there are a few great tunes on that album. I will wait for reviews...

  5. The Band that destroyed roman numerals single handedly. But I love their first three albums.

Since my only vinyl copy is a used UK, I bought from a forum member back in 2010, I see no reason to immediately dismiss this.
It might very well be cut by Chris Bellman, and sound great. Already on my various wish lists, with Bull Moose giving the best price.

  7. Yes It might sound great but it really doesn’t need a remix at all.

I'm usually on board for a remix most of the time but I don't think this album needs one. If it's a big improvement I'll be blown away. I'll also wait for the reviews first.

The author blurb is longer than the article.
Anyway, I like the MFSL CD just fine.

I love this album! Will definitely check out the remix.
What's sad is Steven Wilson didn't remix this, probably because he's busy with his own music at the moment.

You probably have the 2009 pressing. Does your copy have/had that Rhinovinyl sticker?

The Wilson remixed release shows a banner on the cover (upper left) and LP labels (left from the hole).

The Rhino is a Bellman cut. A good one too. I've got the Wilson on CD and Bellman on Rhino vinyl. I'm in good shape for Chicago II.

Eh, I'll give it a stream when it comes out. Won't set me back any.

Literally no one needs another Chicago compilation, so yeah, this is the next logical step.

Both versions of Chicago II remain available, so it's not like they're replacing the old version.

I eagerly await the "yes but they'll be replacing it eventually, you'll see!" brigade that pops up in the Beatle remixed album threads.

I see/hear no remix necessary. My Columbia Two Eye album sounds superb.

I don't need a remix of this great album done by a guy who wasn't even 2 years old when it was released!
