I rarely run across super deals, so I'm pretty pessimistic when I find something "too good to be true". I'll occasionally browse Bear Family box sets.

I ran across an ebay listing from Musicmagpie for this title 1968-1974 by OSBORNE BROTHERS (1995-11-0 CD. Not a die-hard fan, but thought if I could find these at a great price, I'd add to my Bear Family collection. It was only ~$5, so I thought I'd take a chance. I couldn't find any kind of identifying number that would verify this as the box, but the 11-95 date does correspond to the Bear release date. They sold 10 of these, so I thought maybe it was inventory from record store close-out. Also, I couldn't find any other cd release from the Osborne Brothers with 1968-1974 in the title. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's an actual Bear Family set. I'm also hoping that it doesn't get destroyed in shipping from overseas.

What are the chances that I've stumbled across a good deal?

Wouldn't a pressing matrix number on the CD's themselves confirm the real deal? I guess you'll know when they arrive and if it's a fake it didn't hopefully cost much with shipping.

I’m not really concerned about a fake, I just wonder if the title is correct. If the package fits on my mailbox, I’ll know if I got what I (hopefully) ordered.

The title appears to be correct here. Is the title listed like you have it or this way?

It's listed the way that I quoted it, but I can find no other release close to the title they have, that's why I'm hoping it's the Bear set.
1968-1974 by OSBORNE BROTHERS (1995-11-0 CD is the exact listed title.

I see, it could just be laid out wrong on the ad and is actually the same as the one I linked above.

@spanky1 That's promising, looking forward to hearing the outcome when your package arrives. I had a similar experience with the same vendor where a very affordable BF box set was listed. When it finally arrived, A) no outer box or book was present and B) only one of the four discs was included. From what I've observed, the process they use to list titles is by either the bar code or title and the workers don't seem to have a way to denote when a particular title is complete or incomplete.

I don't expect to get a 4-cd box set from them. However, with Ebay's refund policies, the buyer is protected. I should be able to get my refund pretty easily if it's not the box set listed.

  9. What's the UPC code of the item on the eBay page? The large CD reselling operations all operate based off that number since each legitimate release has a unique UPC number.

I've seen those companies occasionally get stock of box sets, presumably in warehouse clear-outs or a record store closing up shop.

Not one listed. I looked for that as well.

Well, after the expected delivery date went by without a delivery, I contacted MusicMagpie for a refund. They refunded my purchase price and shipping, but then the package the next day. As I expected, instead of the 4-cd LP-sized Bear family box set of the Osborne Brothers, here's the cd that arrived.

Doesn't this get you pumped up? Be honest, did you give it a listen or just keep the jewel case after discarding the disc and inserts? :D

I think I'll gift it to my wife at Christmas since she always questions my musical tastes.
