Yup. I appreciate when famous people have a sense of humor about their own image. Ed was a good sport and did not embarrass himself.

Trite & slight. A wasted opportunity.

    The Lennon "cameo" was cute.

I think that's the highest praise I've ever heard Ed Sheeran receive!

Fantastic film, saw it yesterday (ha!) with my 12 year-old son and he not only loved it, but is also now interested in the music. I think some here are missing the point by taking the movie a little too seriously; no, it's not perfect by any means, but if the trappings of film and music snobbery can be avoided and people can simply accept it for what it is I think most will greatly enjoy it for the two hours of feel-good escapism it provides on a hot summer afternoon.

Lots of people in these parts love to bemoan the diminishing audience and cultural relevance of music from this era; then we get a fun movie (which doesn't seem to take itself too seriously) released during Summer blockbuster season which has the potential to reignite interest among young people and rather than applauding some just can't be content and simply find more nits to pick!

    Me again..

    I'm not saying it's sh<i>te, btw.

I'm also not holding out forever against this film. One day I will see it, quite possibly on Sky Movies or some such.

As I say upthread, my daughter did see it, she is already well versed in the Beatles, knows the movies and even met Stella's dog (how do we know it was Stella's? She was playing with it! Hey hey...

Anyway, so she had nothing to "discover" as such, so maybe that helps, maybe not.

If you're talking about Ed Sheeran, his role (as himself) is much more than a cameo appearance.

It was always gonna be, 'cos it's a Richard Curtis film. I won't make judgement until I've seen it, on telly, a long way off, but I expect it to follow a "by numbers" kind of a route.

I heard him interviewed on the radio a couple of days ago and he said his favourite Beatles songs are And I Love Her and If I Fell. Great songs, but you are getting the kind of movie of someone whose favourites aren't Helter Skelter and Tomorrow Never Knows.

Saw this film over the weekend. I enjoyed it very much. Even teared up once or twice. A solid B+

Worth seeing for the killer rocking version of Help!

I thought Ed Sheeran was funny. He shouldn't quit his day job, but I don't think he embarrassed himself here.

    A side note poll question

Would you take a world without The Beatles if it came with a world without cugarettes?

BTW, as a huge Beatles fan I really enjoyed the movie.

Maybe not having cigarettes is what made us not have the Beatles? John and the Quarry Men aren't taking a smoke break, and Ivan never has a chance to introduce them to Paul?

My biggest frustration is Jack is kind of dull. In a way, kind of like Harry Potter (who?) who doesn't seem all that special intellectually (unlike the Beatles individually). Jack couldn't offer an explanation for what A Hard Day's Night means, couldn't think on his feet, was certainly dense in regard to the woman who obviously loves him... I mean, doesn't he have anyone in his life who would say "She Loves You"?

It's good that script writer Richard Curtis' favourite Beatles songs are "And I Love Her" and "If I Fell" and not the latter songs. Otherwise he would have created a pretentious movie.

You mean our illustrious hero taking LSD and strung out on heroin for half the picture, and weird murderous cults getting obsessed with the songs. Yeah, couldn't happen in real life.
