Loved him on "The Larry Sanders Show". Apparently, he was a pretty hard living dude. He and Norman Mailer got into a huge scuffle while making a movie.

    Stay hard, Rip!

At 88, I'd imagine it would classified as "natural causes".

So good in Defending Your Life, one of my favorite comedies. That's how I'll always remember him.

My favorite all time show is Columbo, and he’s in my favorite of the newer episodes from the 80’s/90’s called Death Hits The Jackpot. He’s such a great swarmy creep in that episode. That show depends in great part on how well the killer is played, and Rip played one of the best. RIP.

Artie the producer is one of the funniest characters ever. Everything he said was hilarious.

Another fan of Artie here. Rest in peace, Rip.

For something completely different, here's a few minutes of a great 1962 Naked City episode with Rip and Tuesday Weld titled "A Case Study of Two Savages":

Probably a myocardial infarction (heart attack) in his sleep. RIP Mr. Torn.

The second best way to die, in my opinion.

I wonder if he is now defending his life.

I agree. You don't even know you're dead. That's how I'd want to go.

And you don't spend 2-3 of your last years with a tube shoved up your nose wearing a dirty diaper in a wheelchair.

Please just let me die with a shred of dignity.

That was the very first thing that endeared him to me. I used to watch "What's My Line"? nightly in the early 1970s, when I was a kid, and once he was the mystery guest. I thought he had the coolest name and I became an instant fan. He just happened to be a great actor as well!

My first memory of Rip was seeing him as Alexander in the season two opener of Man From Uncle in 1965.
