I always thought a fun compilation would be big name artists who had that one "sell out" disco/club hit. Which examples can you think of?

A few off the top of my head....
    * The Steve Miller Band - "Macho City"
    * Seals and Crofts - "You're The Love"
    * The Beach Boys - "Here Comes The Night"
    * Pink Floyd - "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2"
    * Neil Young - "Sample and Hold" (a bit late for 'disco', but fits the mold well enough!)
    * The Grateful Dead - "Shakedown Street"
    * The Rolling Stones - a couple choices, but I'd go for "Emotional Rescue" for Mick's Bee Gees falsetto

...legend has it that during Paul Stanley's first trip to Studio 54, he thought "anybody can write this stuff," so he went home and whipped the song up in about fifteen minutes.

I'd throw in The Doors' "Ghost Song" as well.

Though if you managed to dance to that, more power to you. XD

If true, why did he need Desmond Child and Vini Poncia as co-writers?

I feel like ABBA should be on there, something from "Voulez Vous" - their only true 'disco' album. "As Good As New" is an obvious pick.

Paul McCartney - Goodnight Tonight (edit: Ah, Lazenby beat me to it!)

Also, I've also thought that the beginning and end sections of Led Zeppelin's Carouselambra have a bit of a disco-y feel.

It’s another example of Paul talking out of his ass.

I know who Bob and Ray were, but I confess that I don't get the reference.

I can't speak for the others who have posted, but although I'm not at all a disco fan, I enjoy many of the "sell-outs" listed in this thread. (In fact, Shakedown Street and Low Budget were the first Grateful Dead and Kinks albums I ever owned.)

The Stones track I would nominate would be 'Miss You'.

As for 'Sample And Hold', even though it does have a good groove, isn't that more experimental synth-pop?
