Abbey Road 50th Anniversary Discussion. What Can We Expect?

At the risk of crossing threads, one of our insiders did say there will be an Apple Boxed set.

Which has often confused me unless I’m overthinking things because I think of Apple as two distinct entities; one being the Saville Row company that produced recordings during their hay day, and the company that we know & love today. Well maybe not all of us.

Anyway that’s besides the point, the point being that maybe Paul & Ringo will be included on an “Apple” Mystery Box if I’m reading my tea leaves correctly.

Well, they approved the remixes, so that tells you everything.

Because Apple will only put about 50 minutes of music on a CD that holds 8o minutes so space is not the issue.

Maybe they took a page from the IMAGINE book and we get 2 blu-ray's this time.

 

We already have "Abbey Road" too. Doesn't mean they can't remix C&GI.. improve the sound some.

So, what are the chances that Apple will do a Sgt Pepper and not include any songs that weren't meant for AR?

 

They should put a blank cdr in the box whereupon you can burn any tracks that you would like that aren’t included.

 

Exactly. "You're So Square" and "Blue Moon" and "Let it Be" were never considered for inclusion on the White Album, but those recordings were included in the WA50 box because they were captured during the same sessions and paint the picture of the entire era of their creativity during the period.

But those weren't featured on Anthology already, and neither was the full version of "Los Paranoias".

Probably Paul or someone else decided they should keep "Come and Get It" exclusive to Anthology. Oh well. Maybe we'll get a remix of Anthology one day.

I think the approach with the SDE boxes is to not replicate anything exactly from Anthology unless absolutely necessary.

 

Maybe we'll get 50th sets for Anthology, featuring outtakes of outtakes. Maybe dialogue from the Anthology mixing sessions of Geoff Emerick saying, "Let's just use my Sessions mixes for "That Means A Lot," "Not Guilty," and others. They sound great!"

What is the 1996 mix of "Real Love?" I thought there was only one mix, on Anthology 2 and the single.

 

Only eleven weeks, twelve hours to go!

 

I type that out and I'll have blisters on me fingers.

1996 would be the original mix of Real Love, rather than the 2015 remix that was done for 1+. I was just suggesting a reissue of Anthology would have the remixes in the main package but it would be nice to have the original mixes on the bonus disc.

 

There's a new one on the 1+ set, I believe. It's been awhile since I played that.

 

"Real Love" and "Free As A Bird" were remixed for "1+" in 2015.
