Geico Polar Ice-Breaker Karaoke Researcher Song- Your Favorite Use of A Song In TV Commercial?

Not usually a fan of TV commercials, even less so of commercials that use popular songs in them.

“Having said that” - I have to admit this ad and song crack me up, repeatedly.

Maybe because it’s “refreshing” during this hot summer season or because it mocks a song and group I had no knowledge or interest in. (Had to use the Google machine to identity it. LOL.

Curious if others have reactions to it and in general:

Are there any songs in TV commercials that you feel are used particularly well - or NOT!?!?

That boat, that voyage route, karaoke, that singer - what could go wrong?

 

A sequel to this could be to keep everything the same - but change the song to Kokomo. LOL.

I suspect The Who will get offers for
Magic Bus from Volkswagen when they come out with their upcoming Electric Volkswagen Bus.

 

They would never consent to that type of commercialization of their art, it would be a traves...wait..What I meant was all this pop music is disposable, hanging on to it like it is significant is nuts and it will be a amazing payday!

 

Here’s a case where the commercial came first - then a song evolved from it to hit the charts. It gained new notice a couple years back as it was featured at the finale’ of Mad Men.






The song hit radio stations on Feb. 12, 1971, and it gained immediate popularity. DJs immediately began receiving calls asking them to play the jingle, as if it were a song by The Doors or the Jackson 5. It was so popular, it began to affect the pop charts. The Hillside Singers had recorded the original vocals, and that version peaked at number 13. Backer had the New Seekers record a slightly different version of the song, titled “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony),” which peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Billboard.
