To me, Double Allergic through to Odyssey number five are quite brilliant.

Double Allergic has a somewhat more indie-rock thing going on.

I like all those, but Odyssey number 5 was pretty special in my opinion. Some folks would be all about one of the other two, depends on your musical positioning to a degree.

If you ended up liking all of those, it would be hard to go wrong with any of them. BUT the debut Parables For Wooden Ears, although pretty good, sounds like a band trying to be part of the US semi-grunge scene, and I think it is quite forgettable... from then on they developed their own thing thankfully, that is much better than the debut.

True, but both of those albums were released in 1979.

Thing is, I'd argue that Simple Minds' real success and impact was in the 80's, and beyond. Sure, their debut sold a bit in the U.K., and then not much else until their third album in 1980. Then Sons And Fascination was the release in '81 that essentially changed everything.

People may say the '60s and early '70s are the golden era for them but for me that shifts a decade forward to the '70s and '80s, being a big fan of hard rock and heavy metal.

I never think when people use the word "bands" that they literally mean only bands unless they specify that. In my experience on music boards over the years, people tend to use "bands" interchangeably with "artists," "musical acts," etc.
