Track 15 (Greensleeves (alt. take 6)) from the new remaster can be downloaded for free from Emusic (it's a 172kbs MP3 file):

acousticsounds lists: "Due: November 29", but I haven't received any notice that my pre-order is being mailed yet? Did anyone get a notice that it is being shipped?

Here's an Amazon customer review of the new remaster:

"Two or three years ago I got blasted for giving this album a poor review for its primitive sound quality. That no longer matters since this classic album has finally been remixed and remastered and now sounds wonderful!"

I'm sorry if I missed it, but what is the general consensus of the Monster superdisc?

Steve may not be able to tell from that description but it sure looks like the right one to me, at least the same old Fantasy CD I own. Yes, $4.99 with free shipping if included in a $25 order sounds too good to be true.

As if you needed more proof that record companies have NO idea what the consumer actually WANTS, they use THAT as a "selling point". :realmad:

It has the same remixes as this new CD we don't like. :)

Has anyone determined if the Monster 24/96 remix is the same as what Fantasy released this year? Not similar, but the same. That mix sounds very artificial to me--reminds me of a bad MP3 file.

You don't like but not us.
We like the new remix as well as the old CD.

They sound the same and probably are the same mixes but they don't sync up in Pro Tools for some reason. They drift ever so slightly so I assume it's the same mixes with a different digital clock on the workstation. If changes happened they are only slight as far as I've heard. I don't care for the remix enough to do an in depth listening analysis.

I was happy to pick it up at Best Buy for $6.99 a few days ago, but $4.99 is even better.

Well, I purchased the re-mastered 24-bit version of this release a couple of hours ago. I definitely do not like this as much as the original CD (which, sadly, I've lost :(). The digipack is flimsy as usual, and the sound quality is merely alright. I wouldn't call it terrible, but the piano definitely sounds toy-like on this release in comparison to others.

If you have another copy of this album, it's probably better than this release.

Going back to the alternate take of "Linus & Lucy":

The song also appeared on the Vince Guaraldi album Jazz Impressions of Charlie Brown, which came out a year before A Charlie Brown Christmas. Also, "L&L" was issued as a 45, the label of which is pictured inside the new CD. Is it possible that the alternate take on the new CD might have been the version on the earlier LP? Or a stereo mix of the 45, which of course was mono? Or was the "L&L" on the original vinyl (and original CD) of A Charlie Brown Christmas simply a "pick-up" from the earlier LP using the same performance?

I don't know the answers; I'm wondering if anyone here does know.

No. Same take on both albums, etc... (Slighty different mix reduction but same take).

The album you are referring to was issued under the title "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" originally and on CD.

The version of "Linus & Lucy" on the "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" album CD is to my ears the same take, but a different (better, cleaner) mix than the one on the old "Charlie Brown Christmas" album CD.

Same performance, different mixes on those two albums, if I recall correctly.

edit: Steve and Andreas beat me to it!

Based on what you wrote in your profile, it seems like you don't have a dedicated CD player. I assume you are playing your CD in the car or in a boombox.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm a regular over at A&M Corner and a huge Carpenters fan. Thanks to Rudy and Harry at A&M Corner for guiding me to this discussion and ultimately signing up here to present my discussion.

It's funny how things work out. Just the other day without knowing about this discussion, I was shopping in Target and saw this CD, A Charlie Brown Christmas original soundtrack, Deluxe 24bit Remastered and Expanded Edition w/ bonus tracks. When I saw it was in stereo and with bonus tracks it was a no brainer for me to pick up for $11.99. So being the cautious person I am and never wanting to waste my precious money. I thought let me first find out about this new release online "before I open it". Well that is when things changed for me.

A little background, I have owned this soundtrack for a long long time, it's on CD from 1988 on Fantasy FCD-8431-2. It contains 12 tracks with 12 being Greensleves. Every year I play it a lot, there is something about this album that just brings back a lot of fond memories. What I like most about the 1988 CD is how it generates that "room sound" and how lifelike the music sounds, it's as if you are there in the studio, nothing is muted sounding. It's also the only version I have ever known, not hearing anything else but this one.

So when I read a lot of reviews on Amazon most were bad saying that the room sound seemed to disappear and the stereo mix seemed to place it more in the middle losing more of the spatial ambience of the original mix. Then once A&M directed me here I read all 12 pages to my delight still before opening this new CD.

So I made up my own conclusion based upon a lot of responses here and the fact that since I enjoy my 1988 CD version so much that I probably would just play this new Remastered maybe once or twice and then I would ultimately resort back to my 88 version. The bonus tracks would be cool to hear but it's all the original songs that make it so special for me. I will say that the artwork was cool and reminded me of a cartoon sericel. :righton:

So in a nut shell I took back the Remastered CD for $12.00 credit and applied that to the purchase of the Analogue Production 45 RPM LP set. So I only had to apply $38.00 more, this is how I convinced myself. :D I am anxiously awaiting this and thought I can always burn this to a CD for the car. Also since not having this on any LP form and since I am a collector of LP's as well this was a win win for me and something I consider a collectors item.

sorry for so long on my first post.
