Why so much interest in negative aspects of music here?

I'm sincerely curious as to why there is so much interest among many here in what people DON'T like about music. There seems to be countless threads about "What is your least favorite...". "Who is the worst..." "Bands you can't stand...", etc., etc.

For a forum populated by what I assume must be people who actually LIKE or LOVE music, there seems to be this ongoing push to talk about a lot of negative stuff about music. I'm curious as to why that is. Thoughts?

I'm all for critical thinking. I don't get the feeling that is the intent of so many negative threads.

People think it's really cool to be detached and snarky.

But to talk about what you truly love, you expose something about your true self and makes you feel vulnerable.

I've never understood the various thread(s) here about "what is the worst/most brickwalled/crummiest remastering ever?" I mean, WHO HAS ACTUALLY GOT TIME FOR THAT?

I find it very sad to think people actually like being detached and snarky. Could be.

Because it's funnier and more open to debate than just say "I love it, it's great, etc"

Good band. I loved their first record, but since then they have been cringeworthy.

I'm not much interested in talking about music I don't like; but I do tend to compare what's better and worse within the music I like.

I liked their APYGB album, but the second half of their HIGPESW did in fact provide evidence of a drying up of inspiration. Especially from the song LNGOF on.

If you started a thread saying "I Love this or that band" sooner or later you'll start receiving responses from members who don't like said band and the reasons they think said band sucks. So, even if you started "positive" threads that doesn't resolve the problem. The fact is there'll always exist debate about the most mundane of things, it's part of human nature, otherwise life would be so much boring.

    Basic psychology.

"Research has shown that across a wide array of psychological events, people tend to focus more on the negative as they try to make sense of the world. We pay more attention to negative events than positive ones. We tend to learn more from negative outcomes and experiences. We even tend to make decisions based on negative information more than positive data. It is the “bad things” that grab our attention, stick to our memories, and, in many cases, influence the decisions that we make."

People like to moan. I think it's as simple as that.
