They need to be contacted about this. I noticed it last week and thought it was a momentary glitch but I looked at a bunch of CDs tonight on Ebay and any CD listing that uses "Ebay catalog info" is showing in that part of the listing under Additional Product Info - Format - CD-R.

These are not CD-Rs. Granted, a small few may be official CD-R releases but most are not.

If buyers are reading full listings and seeing this, it's likely to cause sellers to lose sales.

How are you certain they're not a CD-R with the likes of Amazon offering a ton of these things these days?

Agreed if they are in fact real CD pressings it could be a big problem for legitimate sellers.

Ebay doesn't list items for sale.

    Sellers on Ebay do.

I have avoided a few purchases after noticing they were listed as CDRs until I noticed every CD I looked at was listed that way. It must be tied to how their database looks up product info via UPC.

Look up any CD for sale on Ebay where the listing has "ebay catalog info" imbedded into the listing.

Scroll down....look at Additional Product Features. Format will say CD-R.

Search Luke Bell in CDs. First listing will be Import CDs last new copy. Scroll down, says CD-R.

Search Neil Young Harvest in CDs. Says CD-R.

Search Chris Montez - The Hits in CDs. Copies say CD-R.

Search Beck - Sea Change. First listing, decluttr_store. Scroll down, says CD-R.

It's all CDs. eBay's mistake. Likely costing sellers sales.

I don't know when it started but late June - early July, I was having regular sales then all of a sudden not one sale for almost 3 weeks.

Could just be a coincidence but...

You should just make it a common disclaimer on all your listings. I thought about contacting the seller but they are a larger company and in the past sellers like that are unable to provide reliable information anyway so I thought it would be a waste of time and best avoided purchasing.

Thanks, yeah I temporarily ended all my listings today because I'm going out of town for a few weeks and will re-list them when I get back.

Just called Ebay customer service and the rep and I did CD searches together and they saw the mistake on numerous listings. The rep didn't actually know what a CD-R is til I explained it and then they realized this was a pretty big mistake going on, possibly stopping buyers from buying. He's going to report it right away so we'll see if/when the changes happen.

I noticed this as well. CD-r is listed in the stock listing info so if you don't sell using stock listings, all is fine.

    I think.

EDIT: I just checked one of my listings at random and it was created using a stock listing which said "CD-r". Just removed the stock listing info and there is now zero reference to CD-r in my listing.

Yes if you use an ebay stock listing for your listing you can uncheck "Prefill listing with ebay catalog info" and it won't say CD-R but you also lose a lot of the good info about the item that buyers like to see such as total time of CD, producer credit, tracklist, UPC number etc..

Stock listings are often wrong which is why I often avoid using them. All I need is for the UPC to be off and that gives a buyer a valid means to dispute the transaction (as in "not as described").

Thank you for raising this issue - I noticed it on eBay recently too and thought it was just a problem with larger sellers mass-listing things, or maybe that I was crazy and just seeing things! :)

It is indeed a major issue, and thank you for alerting eBay to it.

Yeap. Noticed this as well. It won't keep me from making purchases from reputable sellers. I make a lot of my buys from some of the same sellers.
It did make me wonder why they were listed this way. I usually look at the attributes for label info, remastered, country of origin etc.

    I don't buy CD-Rs but I have a question. Can't you tell by looking at the disc that it's a CD-R ?

Maybe the people that are selling these things don't know what they have? You can ask them to post a picture if they haven't posted a picture.

A CD-R will have no matrix information on the data side, and will sometimes (but not always) have a greenish hue to it.

In this case, though, I'm sure eBay did some update and it's just displaying CD-R on legitimate CDs now. The worst that can happen is that someone might sell a CD-R and then claim "it said CD-R in the listing!" - in which case you can get your money back AND keep the CD-R by using eBay's absurdly unfair buyer protection system.
