Yeah they became a much more solid unit. Much netter music that finally broke them outside of their backyard

Oh, don't worry, it's coming. The dollar store Lester Bangs wanna-be will chime in any moment. As a matter of fact, I'm commenting here just to catch it when it does happen.

No way - the obscenely loud drum mixing on Brain Drain ruins it.

Halfway to Sanity is dark and effed up like the album cover :p

Song wise, I think Animal Boy and Too Tough are almost tied - the tie breaker is that Animal Boy sounds like crap and TTTD is the best sounding Ramones album alongside Road to Ruin and Adios Amigos

    :)

The Smithereens: Their first two records are fantastic, then 11 was a bit of a drop off but still decent. Blow Up was a further plunge, and I thought A Date With the Smithereens was dreadful.

It could have been. If they had a good singer.

    Devo -

Going from the stellar 'Freedom of Choice' album in 1980 to the next album 'Oh No! It's DEVO!' in 1982.
An even better example would be going from the above mentioned 1982 album to the absolute disaster that followed ( both musically, and career retaining wise ) 'Shout' in 1984.
    De-Evolution is indeed very real!

I DO rather enjoy 'Oh No!...' quite a bit, but 'Freedom..' was fantastic and I hold it in a higher regard.
Far better variety and quality to the music, and sounds terrific.
I can't say the same for what came afterwards.

Pete Townshend: White City to The Iron Man. He never came up again.
Ween: Quebec to La Cucaracha. The spark was gone.

  10. Momentary Lapse is better than the largely tuneless Final Cut.

But this thread was made for Oasis - Be Here Now.

New Traditionalists was in between. It doesn't grab my attention like Freedom Of Choice or Oh No It's Devo. I think Oh No is really good. Better than New Traditionalists though Beautiful World is one of their best songs. The second half of Oh No sounds like songs they would've written for their first two; really good.

Yes but comfortably numb, Good bye blue sky, hey you are classics. The album is bloated like any double album but the final cut was like an entire album the same quality of Vera. The final cut is like the b sides to the wall which was already overrated and bloated.

Poseidon is every bit as good and was recorded better. LOVE both albums as they both land in my top 20 all.time lists.

Blink 182 - There first two albums that they made with there original Drummer are classic early to mid 90s Skate Punk. But after that that went down the straight forward 'Pop Punk' route and I've never really been a fan of there stuff after Dude Ranch.

No song on the Wall is on the level of Dogs, Pigs and Sheep. True, Comfortably Numb has the best Gilmour solo on any Floyd record but that's all.

Bruce Springsteen-Tunnel of Love to Human Touch/Lucky Town-Love Bruce but Tunnel is a masterwork of intensely personal songs while HT/LT are at worst generic product and Bruce by the numbers at best.

Prince-The Gold Experience to Chaos and Disorder/Emancipation. I get C&D was a contractual obligation odds and sods record but Emancipation was bloated, samey, dated and had too many unnecessary covers.

Gin Blossoms-New Miserable Experience to Congratulations, I'm Sorry. NME was a solid, jangly pop record with some dark lyrics courtesy of the late Doug Hopkins. Sadly without Hopkins songs the Gin Blossoms had nothing to offer.
