I hear so much bashing of new music, with good reason considering some of what is out there.
Lets call "new music" anything made since the year 2010.
If you REALLY like something lets go back as far as the year 2000.
I know there HAS to be good stuff out there.
If you would please, tell me what you think is good new music.
    Please list:
    The name of the artist
    The name of the song
    The year it was released.
    The genre it resides within.
If you know the available ways in which I could get my hands on what you suggest that would be nice too, but not required.

Thanks for the input for it may help me find my way much faster.

Igor by Tyler the Creator (r&b/ hip hop) from this year is a good one, unfortunately it hadn’t been available on CD, but will as a “limited edition” later this month, but for how long, I don’t know. I’ve streamed it several times, but don’t buy vinyl.

Are you open to new music made by long-established classic rock artists?

Song? I don't really listen to songs without the context of an entire album. So I'm going that route. Genre? I don't care about those. Figure this one out for yourself. Music is music. It's good or it isn't, to me.

Van Morrison and Joey Defrancesco - You're Driving Me Crazy, 2018
Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour, 2018
Rhiannon Giddens - Freedom Highway, 2017

    Paramore - Paramore, 2013

I've found the one album which restores my faith in new music to recapture the best of what I grew up with in the 80s, but taking it into the 21st Century in the most surprising and pleasing ways is:

Black Light by Groove Armada from 2010/2011.

They started out as a 90s dance act, all the electronic, lounge, downtempo, breakbeat, whatever you like to call that sound, but with Black Light they just tore down any notion of genres, and blew my mind.

It's got everything...a bit of alt. rock, some EDM, gorgeous windswept pop, hooks that will stay with you and put a smile on your face. It's upbeat, downbeat, melancholic, euphoric, loud, ambient, edgy, mellow.....just everything.

Mini Mansions are fantastic, especially their 2015 album The Great Pretenders. I just listened to it again today and was blown away at how good it is.

sorry, I'm really not helpful with any new and current bands ....

but going back to 2005/06 ... anybody remember Secret Machines ?
They were broadly labeled "space-rock" but that's too limited a description....
The original trio lineup lost a member .... and lost me too as I never checked out their later efforts.
One of them has also been a touring member of Interpol .

Picked this album up knowing nothing about it because the woman on the front cover looked like an old girlfriend. Hey, it's as valid a method of discovery as any.

A little precious, but it's basically "Calling Occupants From Interplanetary Craft" for twenty-somethings. The (possibly unintentional) nod to "O Superman" doesn't hurt, either.

Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising is the only album from a newer artist in a very long time that has completely, thoroughly & hopelessly captivated me. Though maybe it might not count considering it is extremely "vintage" sounding. But the entire album is perfection from the writing to performance to production. I don't know if I'll ever be sick of it!

This question is a bit broad and subjective isn’t it? Hundreds of great albums have come out in the last couple decades, in countless genres.

It’s like saying “I’m hungry, what’s the best food?”

For what it’s worth, Queens of the Stone Age is the best hard rock band post-2000.

Okay, let's do this: one song I've really liked from each year since 2000, a mixture of genres with some unashamed pop bangers along with more 'serious' (whatever that means) stuff, and with a mix of 'established' artists and new ones…

2000: Where Does the Time Go? – Todd Rundgren (pop, from the album One Long Year)
2001: Linger – Jonatha Brooke (pop, Steady Pull)
2002: Break Beat Phase – Digitonal (Steve Reich inspired electronica, 23 Things Fall Apart)
2003: Peace of Iona – Waterboys (folk-rock, Universal Hall)
2004: Mauer – Sebastien Tellier (jazzy electronica, Politics)
2005: John Wayne Gacy Jr – Sufjan Stevens (folk, Illinois)
2006: Goldwrap – Esbjörn Svensson Trio (jazz, Tuesday Wonderland)
2007: Drive South, Along the Canyon – Bobby Previte (jazz, Set the Alarm for Monday)
2008: Faxing Berlin – deadmau5 (electronica, Random Album Title)
2009: Release Me – Agnes (pop, Dance, Love, Pop)
2010: White Magick – John Zorn (jazz, The Goddess)
2011: No Part of Me – Steven Wilson (prog, Grace for Drowning)
2012: Blue Drive – Oneohtrix Point Never (spacey soundscapey electronica, Rifts)
    2013: Heartbreaks + Setbacks – Thundercat (R&B, Apocalypse)
2014: Let Go for Tonight – Foxes (pop, Glorious)
2015: King Kunta – Kendrick Lamar (rap, To Pimp a Butterfly)
2016: Somebody Else – The 1975 (pop-rock, I Like it When You Sleep, etc. etc.)
    2017: Queen Mab – Becca Stevens (Bard-inspired jazz-folk-pop-rock, Regina)
2018: Lonely Weekend – Kacey Musgraves (country-pop, Golden Hour)
    2019: Silhouettes – American Football (math-rock, LP3)

    There's lots more of course!

Best new band of the last 10 years (for me) is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Don't let the name trip you up. Extremely prolific Australian band with a strong fondness for classic "rock" styles. Always changing sub-genres of rock, they've got records that are jazz-rock, heavy metal, psychedelic rock, folk-pop, alternate tuning, noise, and experimental. For pop, try "Cold Cadaver", for sloppy garage metal, try Nonagon Infinity.
