Lee grew to despise the role as he felt it overshadowed the rest of his career, but there’s no disputing his revitalizing the role, st least for the first couple of films. With his height and training in mine and dance, Lee certainly brought a physically to the role that was difficult to match. HORROR is a classic.

He agreed to do the The Count for Franco after some reluctance because it was gong to be a much more faithful adaptation of Stoker’s novel, even though it didn’t end up being such. Kinski’s Renfield is superb.

You beat me to posting that photo. It has such atmosphere.
Atmosphere is important and Browning's film reeks with it.

Audiences always enjoyed Lugosi's physicality. He separates Dracula
from other men by finding postures and gestures that are weirdly
unnatural and yet natural to him, never forgetting the regal dignity
of the Count. Lugosi's dignity was innate. He never lost it, and he
invested his Dracula with a dignity and Regality that was his own.
His gestures and posturing also suggest an otherworldly -ness.
This, too separates Lugosi's Dracula from any other actor. Most
Dracula films were at a loss finding something for the Count to do.
Through his physicality and concentration Lugosi made every
second in front of the camera memorable.

    Horror of Dracula, hands-down.

Sir Christopher Lee was the GOAT.

    Plus, Peter Cushing, Michael Gough...

He looks like an ass in all those movies.

I like Dracula only in the artworks of Ayami Kojima.

Like James Bond, the role of Dracula has featured an array of fine actors. They have all brought something to the character.

I grew up watching Lee and Lugosi play him so they are the sentimental favorites.

But I like how Palance, Jourdan, and Oldman played him as well. All three were guys that I would not have thought to cast in the role and yet they all nailed it.

I see Lee gained and surpassed Lugosi.

But my money is on the spidery performance of Shreck.

I agree. There are many other Draculas, as I explained in the OP, to many
to include here, so I stuck with the best known and most iconic. I agree
the list is incomplete without George Hamilton.

If I could redo the poll, I would add Udo Kier and George Hamilton, but
not Willem Dafoe who is playing Max Shreck playing Dracula not Dracula
himself. Dafoe is sensational, however, and the film is terrific.

I'm not a fan of Udo Kier and Andy Warhol's Dracula aka Blood for
    Dracula
. I saw it in 3-D the week it opened in NYC. Saw it again at the
World 3-D Film Expo 2013 in Hollywood, a special midnite screening
    with Kier in attendance.

Going for Max but the one who means most is Lee, when I got married in 1966 the pubs did not open till three o'clock so we filled in the time with a Dracucla film of his don't know which one.

The film you saw on your wedding day might have been Dracula Prince of Darkness.
It's about two couples on holiday who become trapped in Dracula's castle in which
they are killed for their blood. The wife becomes a raving sex maniac vampire. An
appropriate film for newlyweds. That came out in 1966.

Love your avatar of Francoise Hardy.

Be fair, will you? This thread is about the movies.

Couldn't help it. Sorry, man. Sticking with Lee - though I'm not enamoured with most of his Dracula films barring the first one - and Schreck, followed by Jordan.
