I'm running out of superlatives for this series—the Tone Poet releases are so good . . . 1964/2019 Blue Note – B0029975-01, Blue Note – ST-84151 Blue Note Tone Poet Series – KPG@CA
SOUND OF SURPRISE - Lee Konitz (RCA Victor) CD with Lee Konitz (alto & vocal), Ted Brown (tenor), John Abercrombie (guitar), Marc Johnson (bass) & Joey Baron (drums) Recorded Avatar Studion NY 1999. Mastered by Katsuhiko Naito. "..a thoroughly enjoyable and thought provoking set." (Penguin Guide To Jazz)
(LP Prestige New Jazz Victor Japan "Prestige Jazz Masterpiece Series" SMJ-6565) 1976 .... recorded March 1st, 1961 @ Van Gelder Studio Englewood Cliffs .... Oliver Nelson (ts, as) + Eric Dolphy (as, b-cl, fl) + Richard Williams (tp) + Richard Wyands (p) + George Duvivier + Roy Haynes .... some 10 months subsequent to "Screamin`The Blues" the same ensemble provides another highly memorable session .... (as usual) excellent Victor Japan vinyl press from the late(r) 70`s....
Weather Report - Weather Report (1971). Still the best WR album to me, a straight line from the Miles Davis IASW/BB combo. Wayne Shorter's status as Joe Zawinul's co-equal would fade over time, but on the debut he's front and center both as writer and player.
Olver Nelson's albums with Eric Dolphy, recorded for Prestige/New Jazz and impulse!, were his best. His other stuff falls way short in my opinion.
Thelonious Monk - Monk In Tokyo Thelonious Monk, piano; Charlie Rouse, tenor sax; Butch Warren, bass; Frankie Dunlop, drums.
Leo Parker – Rollin' With Leo Label: Blue Note – UCCQ-9534 Series: Blue Note 80 More 60 Works – Format: CD, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered Country: Japan Released: 17 Jul 2019 Baritone Saxophone – Leo Parker Bass – Al Lucas (tracks: A1, A2, B1 to B4), Stan Conover (tracks: A3, A4) Drums – Purnell Rice (tracks: A3, A4), Wilbert Hogan (tracks: A1, A2, B1 to B4) Piano – Johnny Acea Tenor Saxophone – Bill Swindell Trumpet – Dave Burns Recorded October 12 & 20, 1961. Such a cool album. Out of this recent series of Japanese BN 80 reissues, the two Leo Parker albums are among my favorites.
Wallace Roney - Crunchin' (1993). With Antonio Hart, Geri Allen, Ron Carter and Kenny Washington. Talented quintet takes on standards such as "Woody'n You", "What's New" and "Misterioso".

Some very deep and moving music made by these guys. Lovely stuff.
Jan Garbarek Quartet - Afric Pepperbird (1970) Jan Garbarek, Terje Rypdal, Arild Anderson and Jon Christensen. (ECM)
I’ve been coming back to this recording a lot lately. There’s something about it that just pulls me in like a strong undertow. Only these musicians: Motian, Lovano, and Frisell could have created this music and improvise in this way.
