Having 5 songs to not hit no1 in billboard chart and 5 of them peaked at no2.

    Poor Taylor. Heartbreaking...

Don't her albums sell incredible amounts?

Well I’ll be there for her in her time of need.

Or maybe not, I don’t think my ego could survive being featured in one of her songs!

I'll write a song for her! Or at least part of the lyrics, like she does.

If the record sales don't pan out, she can fall back on her appealing acting skills, like in this TV ad for Capital One Bank.

At least Swift has hit #1. Pity poor CCR, who had five #2s without ever hitting #1.

Or Blood Sweat & Tears. Their first three charting singles all peaked at #2 and then never had another top 10 hit.

Given that they're kept off out of the Number 1 spot by an autotuned rapper, I don't think her singing ability enters into it. It does seem a bit unfair that Old Town Road can count as the same song after they added Billy Ray Cyrus into the mix.

I love Taylor Swift, and had hoped Me! and You Need to Calm Down would have hit number one. I think they are both wonderfully upbeat and infectious songs, I like the messages too.
I don't consider her unlucky. She's a great songwriter and an interesting star to have around.

True, there's always going to be an astetik next to this song when talking about its weeks at #1, since technically it was credited to the solo version during its 1st week at #1.

Well in 2001 Jennifer Lopez had two unrelated tracks called I'm Real. One a summery dance pop track and the other a "remix" but actually an entirely different song and a more hip hop flavored collaboration with Ja Rule. The Ja Rule version was a much bigger hit but Billboard actually counted both songs as one. To me that is way crazier than Old Town Road

I've heard this song exactly one time, and it is shockingly bad.

Taylor Swift's music really isn't my cup of tea, but I get why people enjoy it. It's fine for what it is -- harmless, catchy fluff.

I suppose every generation goes through that "old man yells at cloud" phase, but I feel my parents could at least identify with the music I was growing up with. It had something in common with what they grew up with. What I'm hearing now is stunningly unrecognizable.

The best way to come to terms with "Old Town Road" is to realize that not a single person posting in this forum is a member of the target audience.

For 7 year olds like my son, however, it's an earth-shattering, inescapable mega-hit.

Billboard changed the rules after that. Remixes count, new recordings do not.

And it wasn't the only time. The next year, J-Lo did the same thing with a song called "Ain't It Funny." The original song was Caribbean-flavored, reminiscent of Madonna's "La Isla Bonita." The "remix" with Ja Rule (again) was so dissimilar that it might as well have been a different song (and probably was). Billboard changed its chart rules to address this not long thereafter.
