I think ringing and his sometimes idiosyncratic style definitely helped give them their style. The worst thing in the history of music would have been if one of the wretched wrecking crew was brought in. Hal Blaine was a great drummer but it just would have meant they sounded like absolutely every other band on the radio.

that is a false quote that has never been authenticated and only serves to support an unfounded hate of Ringo.

Ringo is a very competent drummer, but seriously, what made The Beatles were Lennon & McCartney's songs. They would have been fab with any other decent sticksman.

I just want someone to make a mashup of some Beatles songs with Ginger Baker on drums.

He was. And was crucial to their sound. I guess you're just repeating the false Lennon quote he never really said.

They'd sound different. Pete Best and Ringo both gave them a unique sound- one more suited to Clubs and Dingy bars (Pete), and efficiency and time keeping (Ringo). :wiggle:

This forum would have far less threads if Ringo wasn't the drummer for The Beatles.

I think most of these onslaught of Beatles threads over the past few weeks are basically troll threads. They are posted to see just just how many people will reply to increasingly meaningless threads just because they are about the Beatles, and that there is nothing too mundane for them to have a lengthy debate about.
They are joke threads trying to see just how far they can push it before people realise.

If this thread actually is asking & not trolling: they would have really sounded different without Ringo. Who in that era sounded like that on records?

That whole “tea towel on the snare” thing he did from 1968 onwards really made a distinct snare sound. Also, Ringo simplified his sound a lot in the later era. Gone was the ringing open hi-hat that he smashed on throughout the early singles era - in its place was a very distinct bare-bones approach none of the big name drummers of the day were doing. Ringo served the songs incredibly well, never overplaying.

Or, Jimmy Nicol could have just filled in. Whatever.

Not so sure. Ringo added a distinctive backbeat to their early songs that gave them a different rhythmic flavor that set them apart from other bands.

That's what I was referencing above...they all got taken down except for the one I posted. The "Come Together" one was even better :laugh::laugh:

    Interesting thread

I think it's fair to say that only Pete Best did his own drumming. Before Ringo of course

Both Jimmy Nicol and Paul of course tried to copy Ringo's drumming style.

I love Ringo. He is a great drummer, imo. I love his fills, which are simple but unique.
