Could not disagree more. The drop off happened after they fired Hagar -- and tried to bring DLR back the first time. The result was two awful songs for a Greatest Hits album, followed by the Gary Cherone debacle, followed by a decade of nothing, followed by the third coming of DLR, decades past his expiration date.

There was another drop off when John Deacon left. The 1992 tribute concert was decent and at least 75% of the band were there rather than 50%.

Indeed - but not everyone would say it was a drop-off.

The Hollies, after Graham Nash left.

To be fair, some of their later songs with Nash were pretty insipid as well, but that was because they weren't going in the direction he wanted to take them, and was one of the reasons why he left.

They made Other Voices while Jim was still alive, and had apparently quit The Doors.

But the three post Bernard Butler albums were a downward spiral IMO.

All that aside, personal opinion is that it was pretty damn good. Don't see where the dropoff was, especially since the group determined that the vocals could be improved.

Now, take the reverse: if you didn't like it, does that mean that it wasn't good?

They didn't make it to an album but John Squire quitting the Stone Roses led to their worst moment - their Reading 1996 car crash appearance. Not necessarily the fault of his replacement Aziz Ibrahim, but definitely the band's lowest moment.

Yes, obviously. That's what good/bad are. They're utterances of personal approval/disapproval, preference, etc.

Spinal Tap was never the same after John Stumpy Pepys died in a gardening accident. His replacements couldn't hold a candle to him:

    • John “Stumpy” Pepys (1964–1966) Died in a bizarre gardening accident, that the authorities said was “best left unsolved.”
    • Eric “Stumpy Joe” Childs (1966–1967) Choked on vomit of unknown origin, perhaps but not necessarily his own, because “you can’t really dust for vomit.”
    • Peter “James” Bond (1967–1977) Spontaneously combusted on stage during a jazz festival on the Isle of Lucy.
    • Mick Shrimpton (1977–1982) Exploded onstage.
    • Joe “Mama” Besser (1982) Claimed he “couldn’t take this 4/4 ****”; according to an MTV interview with Spinal Tap in November 1991, he disappeared along with the equipment during their Japanese tour. He is either dead or playing jazz.
    • Richard “Ric” Shrimpton (1982–1999) Allegedly sold his dialysis machine for drugs; presumed dead.
    • Sammy “Stumpy” Bateman (1999-2001) Died trying to jump over a tank full of sharks while on a tricycle in a freak show.
    • Scott “Skippy” Scuffleton (2001–2007) Fate unknown.
    • Chris “Poppa” Cadeau (2007–2008) Eaten by his pet python Cleopatra.
    • Plus 9 other drummers at various times (Probably between 1970 and 1981) all of whom are dead

Toto releasing Isolation after the dismissal of Bobby Kimball - a change in sound was going to happen anyway as evidenced by the album but the new vocalist made them sound like a completely different band, and I don’t think they ever recovered.

  25. I don't agree there. Come Taste the Band is an excellent album, even if they weren't all that good on tour.
