Just got this live album and I like it, Jerry produced but not playing.

Panama Red is what got me into them

I've got an Original Album Classics set of their first five albums that I love. Especially the debut, Gypsy Cowboy, and The Adventures Of Panama Red. Great band!

yes, I have that and every other CD edition throughout the world! it took years of collecting to get them all...my favorite is still the NRPS-NRPS Edsel CD 265 of their debut.

Panama Red brought a lot in. I always thought “Henry” should’ve been a bigger hit. Back then, drug songs on
FM radio was a regular event.

I have a good bit of NRPS, but my go-to records are most likely
Power Glide and Gypsy Cowboy, followed closely by their debut.
I've also got two enjoyable live shows: Fillmore West from 1971,
and Winterland from '72. There's a good compilation,
Field Trip An Anthology 1971-75 if you can find it.
I've seen the David Nelson Band over the years a few
times, had a few beers with them years ago, and they
always put on a good show, and they have a good discography.

I find it a loss when Torbert left...I really liked his stuff...went onto Kingfish and then death...so damn sad!

I saw them open for the Dead in 1971 with Jerry playing steel guitar for them. Saw them again as the main act about a year later. I always liked them.

saw them dozens of times...some shows were better than others, but I am still a huge fan of their Columbia work...last time was in a small bar with John Dawson and a few musicians...no drums. it was cozy...talked with John for quite sometime after the show...he was a very pleasant fellow.

I saw NRPS in a small bar around 1978 or so. They weren't that popular by then. The first album was the best, everyone had a copy.

I saw them open for Leon Russell, must have been about 76? Quietest band ever, sound level was really low (I guess it was before the loudness wars).

I’m not a fan of loud shows. Neil Young did some permanent damage to my ears on the Rust Never Sleeps tour. But these guys were soooooo quiet. Pleasant enough, but too quiet to have much impact.

I ought to try them out. What’s a good starting point.

I loved the New Riders starting with their debut, then best of (?), and finally Panama Red. I Don't Know You, Whatcha Gonna Do, One Too Many Stories, Portland Woman, Henry, Glendale Train, Last Lonely Eagle, Louisiana Lady and Panama Red are all fantastic songs. Last Lonely Eagle reverberates with me especially with the line about cutting off their hair. Kinda bringing an end to the hippie dream.

Now the only one I still have is a live album from Clark University, Worchester, Mass. April 1973. Maybe originally a fan recording? Not sure but it isn't that good.

I have the first one, and i like it a lot. It’s the only Dead-affiliated thing I do like, really; it’s Garcia on the pedal steel, right? I might have Powerglide somewhere, actually, but haven’t listened to it. The singer’s lyrical persona on the debut is quite appealing, kind of an affable naïf figure. I am a bit leery of venturing further into their catalogue because all that jolly dope smuggler stuff seems a bit off-putting.

It brought us in! Indeed Garcia helped open the door...They toured with The Dead with Jerry on steel...John Dawson and most of the original band were friends with the Dead...they all hung out together in the 60's...John Dawson And Jerry wrote Friend Of The Devil...they go way back...

I just checked my ticket stub. Got the date wrong, saw them in 1980, when I was in College. Sorry, can't recall who was in the band. I'm sure I was loaded at that show-
