I don’t know that one. Another to add to my listening queue! 8/31/80, Landover, was a show i didn’t make it to but it was another tape I thought highly of from that tour. As well as Lewiston, mentioned by USBlues, I wish I had been at, and well worth a few hours of listening. Viewing the archive, jeez, there must be another 20 shows from summer 80 after the Alaska gigs that I’ve never heard, or even heard about. Early 80s may not be my top favorite era, but I’m enjoying the immersion I’m currently doing. Plenty of good shows.
This was discussed right after the box came out. Apparently he was off backstage looking for Dona. He comes back in at the end of Dark Star. This of course makes this a very interesting rendition since it's back to the core 4, playing much differently, and dare I say better, than when the 4 of them last played a Dark Star without a keyboard player.
Huh, I missed that I guess, I had no idea. That's interesting, and encouraging that it's not just a terrible mix...
If you're the only ones who do what you do, but you're not the best at it, that's kind of pathetic, isn't it? Or maybe not...I've been puzzling over that for a few decades...
7/2/71.. The archive states the source discs came from Cinnie Veigh. Actually, it was Connie Veigh. Which was a pseudonym I had given to (((Noah Weiner))), because he had this habit of saying the word "convey" a lot. We teased him about it, especially when he did it in interviews. When he gave me these discs, being the aud nerd that he is, I don't think he was aware how much of an upgrade this was to what was circulating on etree at the time. We're no longer swapping our "tapes", but our photos. But that's another story. Where was I? I played the hell out of this show, even before I got this upgrade. It's in the neighborhood of 8/6/71 (which was my first ever tape trade fwiw). Why this show hasn't surfaced on an official release is anyone's guess. It's a killer show from the Summer of '71! Dave, this one is a gimme!
Got this off of Etree a couple of hours ago. I am a real fan of this time period and the recordings from this time. This is my background music for tonight's Utah vs BYU football game. So what did you guys think of Dave's 31? It's OK. Like the first few tunes has me thinking, "Ah! I can see why he picked this show." But then it sort of faded for me, and the bonus material is not top quality in any way. It's not horrible, but he probably could have picked five better shows if he thought about it. Am I wrong? ("No, Walter, you're not wrong, you're just an *******.")
Nope. I only do that when I’m listening to The Supremes. Diana Ross’ voice is often purple and sometimes green. The walls vibrate in synch with Jamerson’s basslines.
Have you checked out the 2019 Dave’s Picks thread? There has been A LOT of digital ink spilled both pro and con about that pick in the past month. Tempers have flared. I’m not sure if much of it is worth repeating on this more chilled-out thread.
Diana Ross & The Supremes was the second concert I ever saw. While on a family vacation in Colorado as a kid we went to Red Rocks to see 2 shows, Diana and the gals was the second one. The first was Peter, Paul & Mary. Here's the plaque from the Museum in the RR Visitors Center.
I haven’t dropped anything for almost 20 years. And back then only a handful of times. It was wonderful. But those days are behind me. I’m glad I did, it is a great experience that I would recommend to anyone. I just don’t think I could handle it now. And if I’m thinking that, that’s reason enough to just keep the memory but steer clear.
Not anymore. Even back in the day, I was more likely to listen to Yes or Pink Floyd under that particular influence. Now did I drop when I *saw* the Dead? Oh yeah.
IWT! The concert, not the football game. ‘89 was a really good year for the GD, Spring tour was no exception. Both nights at The MECCA are excellent.
With Vince's "bells" it really is the season to be joyful with that intro. The Kenny G-esque sax just makes it the perfect holiday tonic. What an awful, awful facsimile of one of the band's best confined, first set songs from '72-74.
This must be one of the most dynamic-sounding recordings of the Dead. If you crank it up, you can almost feel the air moving around you...
IWT! About 10th row, center, right behind the mayor and his wife. Grate show, even with the IWTYH buzzkill out of space. Lots of bikers in town for some sort of Harley convention, iirc. Good energy, good fungi.
