This a GREAT idea for a thread, it would make a great sticky.

It's already an incredibly valuable resource, and it will only get better over time.

I remember commenting on how good the sound was on Henry Mancini's Greatest Hits Joe Lopes 1987 remaster, and Steve agreed that "that's the one".

Whole heartily agree, with others that have stated as such as well.
However, anyone posting a "SHA" disc, after page three w/o a link,
SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THE FORUM FOR LIFE!

Steve's already has had to come in and post numerous times!

So, no saying (or asking if) this is Hoffman Certified w/o a link!

This is an enjoyable thread for us,
let's make it an enjoyable thread for Steve! :edthumbs:

(now I'm off to SEARCH out my fave "SHA" discs, wish me luck!)

"Dionne Warwick: Anthology 1962-1969" Rhino CD

    RNCD 75898 Released 1986.

This is the version that Bill Inglot couldn't wait to replace with his remixes, which are great, but too much echo (IMO).

These versions, warts and all, have amazing dynamics and pacing.

    Try and find it!

My copy and every copy I have ever seen of this CD is stamped "Made in Switzerland". This is the only CD I have known to be manufactured in Switzerland. What's the story behind that?

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

Can I get away with saying that Steve has recommended the UK yellow/black LP pressings of the Beatles?
    He's mentioned it 1000 times.
He also loves Die Beatles (Stereo version of Please Please Me)
There are so many threads on the Beatles its tough to get exact quotes when it comes to the Beatles

I can't find the link but I believe Steve has said he liked the Beach Boys comp "Best Of The Beach Boys" on Capitol, 12 tracks - CDP 7913182. It has the boys singing in the studio on the cover.

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

Re Tapestry. SH did recommend the first edition stereo only SACD. It was established that the stereo layer of the second edition of this SACD (it also has a multi-channel layer) was the same as the stereo only first edition. So, either SACD will do.

Sorry, don't have time to search for the thread link right now. I'll take a look later today.

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

P.S. Here is the 'Tapestry' SACD thread,

    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=42723&page=6&highlight=Carole+King:+Tapestry

    which is continued here

    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=72642

Read the whole thread including SH's warning about the strengths and weaknesses of the CDs he recommended, it's worthwhile.

SH: "This album is essentially UNMASTERED. Just like all of the silver MoFi CD's and many of the MoFi UDI's, WEA "Targets", JPN ABBEY ROAD, JPN Beach Boys PASTMASTERS and other early CD's."*

*In another thread, SH does warn that all early CDs are not created equal and their sound quality should be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
