LOVE the song "Conversation Piece," but I'm not buying this.

I already made the mistake of paying for SPAK, out of foolish sentimentality.

Pre-1970 DB just isn't good enough to trigger my fanboy completism. Been there, done that, in the '90s with grey-market and bootleg CDs.

I would, however, buy an official (standalone) Toy in a heartbeat.

    Holy CRAP! I didn't notice that. It's essential proto-Spiders.

I'm so glad I still have my Rykodisc of DB/MOWMOM/SA.

A 2 or 3 CD anniversary issue would be enough for this material: the original album (new version) on one CD and another CD or two of the best/most interesting demos & alternates.

Best box for me so far, not having bought any of the previous ones due to not needing to and refusal to pay for those rip off singles etc. Nice to see the remix Space Oddity available separately on vinyl.

Mentioned this on the Bowie box set speculation thread but this one is going to be a hard pass for me. It would probably end up being a conversation piece at my house though. "What's that box set collecting dust on the shelf?" I think I'd listen once and never return to it. I've purchased enough copies of this album and the extras don't interest me at that price. Hunt Sales has derailed a Tin Machine release but I do hope they resume the collected box sets starting with Black Tie, White Noise but it looks like these anniversary editions are what we can expect to see. Maybe some RSD releases thrown in.

I am enormously disappointed. I don’t need another copy of Space Oddity and I’ve mostly stopped buying CDs now. Really quite irritated that they haven’t officially announced the career-spanning box sets have been cancelled or postponed so I can’t spend the money I’d put aside for volume 6 to get something else.

I missed out on the Paul Smith 50th anniversary space colored vinyl. That would've been amazing. It's not for lack of effort. Never seen an album sell out so fast. I tried to order within 24 hours! I digress. I noticed on the David Bowie site that there is going to be a limited run of colored vinyl for the 2019 remix of Space Oddity. I believe the comments suggest this is for the individually sold vinyl copies. Does anyone know for sure? I'd really like to get a silver or gold copy. Here are the comments from DavidBowie.com .

The 2019 mix of the Space Oddity album will also be released separately and individually on CD, standard digital, 96/24 digital and vinyl. The various vinyl configurations will be randomly distributed worldwide with a mixture of hand-numbered labels; numbers 1 to 1969 on silver vinyl numbers and 1970 to 2019 on gold vinyl, with the remainder being black vinyl.

It's priced at $18.97 so I did preorder just the individual vinyl... not the conversation piece set.

MMMM a lot of people seem to be really dissapointed by this set.

It's actually a nice set that gives the hardcore fans finally Demos and a lot of unreleased Stuff.

My only problem: I don't like this Album very much and really don't need to listen to those demos over and over again. So I guess I will check this out on Spotify and MAYBE get this next year for a very good price.

Also I am very, very dissapointed that it seems like we have to wait quite awhile until we get Tin Machine and the 90ths Album rereleased...

I wouldn't mind if they do a set like this for all the 50th anniversarys from now on, but it would be very sad to end the career spanning box sets because of that...
I guess Parlophone looked a bit too long at the 50th anniversary Releases of the Beatles and Tony Visconti wants too hard to Remix EVERY Bowie Album...

Five (?) more years of Parlophone for Bowie fans apparently.

I pity the fool who compiles these box sets, because they're shooting themselves in the foot again. And I pity the fans who purchased all the $$ and $$$ vinyl singles and lp box sets of demos; Spying, Clareville, Mercury plus the anniversary Space Oddity single set and even the Paul Smith silly vinyl '69 album. They now discover they overpaid for an incomplete set of demos and the new unreleased ones aren't issued on vinyl.

Who's willing to buy new unreleased Bowie material when it's not simultaneously released on all types of media ?

The Estate are acting pennywise and poundfoolish by trying to rob Hunt Sales of his 25% bandmember fees. Hurting him, Tony, Reeves, us fans and themselves in the process. So estate/Parlo won't release TM albums in either box set without Hunt and the three TM members won't release a full blown TM box set without the Estate's approval. Another fine mess they've gotten us into.

But you have to hand it to them ... they're undeniably continuing years of inconsistent releases. Still forcing us to always buy the same studio albums we already own multiple times in a new package deal. And how about that artwork ?

As soon as I read the news I got into town for an extra brand new copy of the Tin Machine 2 album I knew a shop still had; a neighboring shop had a used VG JPN for EU RCA cd for € 6 :righton:

Yes kids it's time to get your missing Tin Machine albums and live material. At the moment this is the cheapest uncensored not damaged Tin Machine 2 cd on Discogs.

Thoughts? Beautiful track as always, but did it need a remix? To my ears, this is a much more spacious mix, which maybe makes it fit in more with the other tracks on SO, but something of the intimacy of the original version is lost. Curious how the rest of the 2019 mixes will sound...

Sounds like I’m the only person looking forward to this set. I held off with all the tat vinyl single boxes because I assumed something like this was coming. Already preordered now it’s here. An era I love with lots of songs I’ve yet to hear. Cool.

Passing on this one. I bought the Spying... 7" set, but none of the others they put out this year...milking cows, scraping barrels, etc.

Still curious as to why the 2009 SO remaster is on here rather than the 2015...is that a tacit admission of failure?

The single was the first release with Mick Ronson and was both recorded and released during the year 1970.
