October 1, 1969, in Augusta, GA, was a homecoming for James Brown. His and his band’s smoking performance at the city’s Bell Auditorium was captured on tape, with an intention to make an album of the show the cornerstone of a move back to his roots. Live at Home With His Bad Self was scheduled as a lucrative holiday release. But JB and that band broke up. Soul Brother No. 1 called in a new, young band, featuring Bootsy Collins, and within a few weeks they recorded the funk anthem "Sex Machine".

A landmark recording James Brown intended as a late '69 release, but instead was edited into half the LP Sex Machine. This new 50th anniversary album presents the previously unreleased complete show for the first time.

I already have enough JB to last me the rest of my life but I'll probably get this one as well.

About time we got a new JB archival release! I’m in.

I’ll believe it when it’s actually in my hands though...

The James Brown episode of Tales From The Tour Bus has various folks including Bootsy telling the story about the firing of the band and the hiring of the new one.

Hell yeah! New JB archival stuff! It's been way too long since the great days of Hip-O.

I hope they take the Woodstock Box approach and get rid of the added reverb, musical overdubs and fakey applause.

Release the show as is, for sure. JB was one of the greatest entertainers, ever. He doesn't need any help.

I just listened to Sex Machine for the first time in ages & it's a great gig.

If they remove the fake applause & clean it up a bit, this will be a monster of a live album. That band was cookin'.

Is that a CD in the picture?

Looks like a 25th October release in the UK.

It's a 50th thing so maybe some copyright considerations.

I'm hoping they dig up Blu-rays of Vegas House of Blues 2000 or Montreux 1995. Both shot in HD. Woodstock 99 might be HD as well.

As a collector I wonder if you can answer this question. Is it possible to buy James Brown & the Famous Flames 1967 L'Olympia Paris on DVD? It keeps getting removed from YouTube and I'd like a copy to keep.

I checked out the sample track of "Live at Home With His Bad Self" on UK Amazon Music. "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose" sounds amazing. There it says the album is expected October 24th.

Thanks for replying. It really is an excellent performance, perhaps a better listen than his more famous ones from around the same time.

This sounds amazing to me (I've only listened on my phone though). I'd be interested to know what other people think of the mix etc...

Definitely sounds like the fake applause has been removed (listening to Sex Machine again now).

If this is being pressed by Rainbo, who handled the recent Get on the Good Foot reissue, it's going to be crap. That album was off-center and sounded like someone used a tone arm to damage the groove.
