Thank you for the nice comment and to the other posters for their nice comments to. Sorry I'm new here and it took me until today to figure out how to post an actual pic instead of a link to the pic. Slowly but surely I'm getting there. Yes most of my rig is Mcintosh. The electronic device on the bottom is Furman 20I Reference PC; (all 83lbs of it)and the piece on the far left is Mitsubishi P10 meter box which I use to control the 18'' def tech sub.
Polk sda 1.2tl's from 1992. They've been recapped, all 8 tweeters have been upgraded and I use a 1000va transformer with them so I can use the 1200 wpc Mac monoblocks.
I have no issues with the Polk Speakers, as I'm not a fan of McIntosh speakers (well, that is not by that brand name, but their sister Sonus Faber's are a whole other story!), but you really need to top that beautiful system off with this ... (If for no other reason than for the "complete" visual effect!) McIntosh MT10 Precision Turntable
I wanted those so badly back then. I used to drool over the line at this little place called Electronic Workshop in the east Village. My budget, however, only supported Monitor 5Bs.
I'm also not a fan of the older Mac speakers that I've owned in the past but the big line arrays that I've heard are special. The line arrays aren't something I care to own but driven by their big mono's in a big room they are quite impressive both sonically and visually. I have thought about an MT 5 or 10 but I'm quite pleased with my Clearaudio tt with the Stradivari mc cartridge I have now. It's the absolute best I've ever heard vinyl sound and I don't want to switch tt's for visuals and possibly lose the great synergy I have now.
The 5Bs are nice little speakers to. In my case I started out with the 2.3s years ago and went to the 1.2s in 2011. They respond well to modifications and ended my long quest for the right speakers.
I still have my SDA CRS+s that were my first pair of real speakers back in the mid 80s. They sound excellent. That pic brings back memories of when I first started getting into 'serious' audio back in the day.
But, most importantly, it looks like I see "Nipper" peaking out from the corner. Official audiophile approved rooms always have a Nipper. I always wanted to hear/see/own the large Polk SDS's.
I think your system is way out of whack if you only have Polk speakers with that system that looks like it costs upwards of $100,000.
Say, someone posted a sort of greatest hits of this thread 30-40 pages back, possibly a Flickr link. Can’t seem to find it.... Might someone have a link? Thanks!
