Guys, you're repeating a lot of the titles already covered in the thread. Silk Degrees, Tapestry, etc. I'll compile a list tonight.

Would be really nice if someone posted fragments of this for all of us to compare.

I would think that your recommendations usually drive up the retail (used) prices of some cd's would also give you pause . . . .

I'd love to, but I'm on the GF's machine as mine's down right now so that means no CD burner and no audio card. I can't even watch youtube anymore!

I could, but how will you get around the pre-emphasis issue, other than burning it to disc with PE Flags?

Speaking of Wish You Were Here, why is the Mastersound Gold being mentioned as Steve's favorite, when I can't find a single post saying so?

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

Of course, that is not Steve's intention. He is merely providing his recommendations, which are very often solicited. How people respond to his recommendations is out of his control.

  13. Re: Discs recommended by Steve

Well, Harry Pearson over at Abso!ute Sound has the same curse. He has stated that he hesitates (to recommend ANY out of print title) for fear that the prices will jump from $6 to $300 overnight, and it happens.

  14. Re: Discs recommended by Steve

I think Steve mentioned in an earlier post in this thread that he hasn't heard either CD version (2 track or Mastersound).

    Link?

EXCEPT that you don't like the MoFi 'LAYLA' above all others, if memory serves . . .

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

Some forum members with personal contact with Steve have been known to relay his opinions on certain titles/topics. Some of the titles mentioned here without corroboration could fall into such category.

  17. Re: Discs recommended by Steve

I don't think that's a good idea. I wouldn't want someone doing that with my opinions, and out of common courtesy and respect, I wouldn't do it to another person. Steve, or anyone else.

Of course once a person has stated it publicly for all to see here in the forum, I see no problem quoting them.

Yeah, that's how it looked to me.

"Never heard it in my life" is not exactly my idea of a recommendation is it?

Can we finally stop saying how much Steve loves this one, and scratch it from the list?

I think this was one of those "warts and all" deals where the thing sounds like the tape but needs improvement.

Steve's comments are scattered throughout. I think this is a thread worth reading again.

Above all others? I think you may have taken what I said in the wrong context. I just prefer the RSO, the MFSL is a close second with it's own merits and demerits for me. IIRC I believe I mentioned once awhile back, I am willing to give it another shot when I am able to afford to rebuy it.

I have both the original 2 channel SACD, and the Multi Channel SACD of Toto IV. I've never compared the 2 channels to one another. If anybody has, are they the same?
