I would just like to correct my own post. 'All The Hits and More' should read (mono & stereo) and NOT just (mono), since the tracks are presented in both formats.

Jamie Tate on the linked thread went on record as confirming they're the same.

    Dave,

This may be on a past thread. Is the MFSL of Layla the original mix?

I know what you are meaning, but just to clarify: Five tracks are in mono, the other 35 tracks are in stereo. Those five mono tracks are important to have (especially well-mastered!), but for the majority of tracks, All The Hits And More relies on stereo.

I would think so as I believe Steve confirmed it sounds like the master tape.

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

I haven't turned up the link yet, but I remember Steve saying that all the original (un-remastered) OJC CDs are flat transfers of the master tapes.

I've also heard that these are going OOP. :(

I've also noticed that this thread is petering out. Why? Are people afraid that if Forum members can find all of Steve's picks in one place,
the prices for said picks will go through the roof?

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

Here Steve recommends the earlier Columbia Sticky Fingers, despite its faults, over the Virgin remaster.

    http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=2001

It's the third post. How do you link to a single post, by the way?

And for what it's worth, in my opinion, mentioning a recommended disc and not providing a link is not altogether helpful and kind of misses the point of the thread.

In Firefox - right click on the post number, and open in new tab. You can then copy the location into your new posting.

Nah, I think we've been through most of the specific ones that I can remember in the years I've been here.

I totally agree and I'd go one step further. I think anything listed without a link or direct quote shouls be removed from this thread.

Thanks for the correction, Steve. Can you think of a few good ones off the top of your head? Is there an earlier thread I should be looking for? I searched for a while but lost patience!

    Re: Discs recommended by Steve

I'm fortunate enough to own a copy, which I bought on the recommendation of Forum members. I didn't realize it had been anointed by Steve himself. ;)

Question for Steve: you're on record as saying that the early MoFi gold CDs are all flat transfers of the master tapes. (Later on they started tweaking them.) The MoFi DSOTM (UDCD 517, 1988) is from the "good" period. Is it not a flat transfer of the master? The Toshiba disc is a flat transfer, but not of the original master. Shouldn't the MoFi be better?
