What are the iconic guitars in your opinion?

The Mosrite guitars that The Ventures & Iron Butterfly used.

 

I've always wanted a Guild 12 string.

 

I've always understood it's a Gibson ES350T, a "lower" end Birdland without all the details and a maple ply top.

 

You mean the Steinbergers? I believe Sting played the bass version for awhile.

 

Great guitar. Pat Metheny & Ralph Towner (Oregon) use them.

 

Two of my favorites! Ralph is a treasure. Still out there playing gigs at 79.

 

Ian Hunter also had a white guitar with a body in the shape of a Maltese Cross. The original may have been more of a prop than a "working" guitar, though. Joe Elliott of Def Leppard had one custom made for Ian that he took out on tour recently with the Mott The Hoople '74 reunion. Not sure who made either one.

I can’t believe this many pages into it and George Thorogood’s white cutaway Gibson Es-125 with P90’s wasn’t mentioned. Iconic!

Many of these guitars are currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. The exhibit is called "Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll".
Guitars include the very first 1950 Leo Fender Esquire prototype, Muddy Waters' Telecaster, Jeff Beck's Yardbirds-era Esquire, Clapton's Fool SG, Black Beauty, and Blackie Strat, Jack Bruce's Fool Fender Bass VI, Jimmy Page's '59 LP No.1 and SG doubleneck, plus some of his Marshall amps, Hendrix's psychedelic Flying V, SRV's Number One Strat, several of Prince's crazy guitars, Van Halen's Frankenstein, several of Townshend's LP Deluxes and SG's (some in pieces), several of Entwistle's bass guitars, including the first Alembic 8-string, one of McCartney's Hofners, and guitars owned by Jerry Garcia, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Neil Young, George Harrison, John Lennon, Rick Nielsen, Nancy Wilson, Tina Weymouth, Joan Jett, and many, many others stars, plus famous keyboards, drum sets, and more.
This is a must-see exhibit if you are in NYC between now and October 1st.

 

Must give a shout out ('cos I own one) to the 1970's Telecaster Custom (or Telecustom).

Don't know if it's iconic but it's the sound of Chicago's South Side to me.

He approached the designers at Gretsch with his idea of a customized guitar. He wanted a square guitar, like the ones he used to make out of cigar boxes.

Hey....one of my White Falcon's was used in the Ferris Buehler movie. Ferris+Falcon is kinda sorta iconic in an 80s drum machine kinda way....isn't it?

Front and center, just behind Ferris in his bedroom. For all of mankind to marvel at throughout eternity.

And there's NO Falcon like that one cuz I embellished it to my own vision with my own hands (or screwed it beyond belief depending on your views as a guitarist).

 

The one guitar that came to mind right away was Eddie Van Halen's red/white one-is that the one he tossed in Dimebag Darrell's coffin? Now coming to mind are the twin necks of Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee (presuming we can squeeze iconic basses in here...). And I guess Jimmy Page's twin neck.
