I would like everyone to know that I’m currently running a campaign pushing for the Rock Hall to induct another batch of backing groups-The Mothers Of Invention, The Wailers, Crazy Horse, Big Brother And The Holding Company, The Belmonts, Wings, The Silver Bullet Band, and The Patti Smith Group- who were excluded from their frontpeople’s inductions. No matter your feelings towards the institution, this is ultimately about preserving their legacy and memory and giving them their proper credit and recognition. All it takes is a signature and for all you Macca/Beatles fans (ohmyga!), you know Paul would be so happy to see Linda in. You know Neil would love to see his guys in. And plus, you know what it would mean to them and their families to get in (I can certainly testify on behalf of the Mothers’ families).

    Thank you for reaching this,

I’m with you on Wings, but after that, maybe not.

I wish you would have thought Warren Zevon deserved a nod...I’d be all over it.

Wings should get their own induction including Paul, giving him 3 total.

Nor yours. Warren Zevon, to me, is far more worthy than all you have listed.

I won’t say Zevon is not derserving; he certainly has a case at least. This is basically doing what was done in 2012; retroactively inducting groups that should have gone in with their frontpeople.

Hate to be a crank about this, but the RRHOf doesn't pay any attention to petitions. Or even to their own fan vote other than a tiny percentage, which wasn't enough to get Todd Rundgren in last year. The legendary status of the bands the OP named isn't any less for that.

Sure. But it would be difficult for most people to identify anyone other than the front people in any of those groups...they’re mostly a revolving cast of characters, and were really back up bands to the lead. Tough to put them into the Hall.

Warren Zevon. Now there is an overlooked, wonderful songwriter.

    1. Most bands only have one or two people that the average person could name, the face. Doesn’t mean those other members aren’t important. A group is more than their face.
    2. Big Brother And The Holding Company Had four members while Janis fronted them, Crazy Horse has had four or five, The Patti Smith Group Had 3-4 other members besides Patti Smith herself.
    3. A revolving door didn’t stop Parliament-Funkadelic, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Temptations, Deep Purple, or Yes getting in. And in those cases, the Hall pared it down to the essentials. They can easily do that for these groups.
    4. Big Brother and The Mothers were certainly not “Backing Groups”, they were Groups. That goes for all of them. And clearly The Mothers were good enough to be included in Zappa’s first nomination.

Nice arguments, and I disagree with each of your points.

But I shall only wish you well in your petition and hope it gets some traction!

We are now nearing 2400 signatures.
We are almost halfway to our goal, and I’m grateful to those who have helped move this campaign forward.
