"I'll Be Back" will be (at minimum) Pete's second song about reincarnation.

Love the Peter Blake artwork (similar to another cover bearing Blake’s stamp, Paul Weller’s Stanley Road). A nice nod to Face Dances as well.

I hope there are musical references to The ‘oo’s mod/pop art past on the album to match the artwork.

“I’ll Be Back” is actually about Pete’s excitement over Arnold’s return to The Terminator franchise.

Worse album title. They should have called it The Who or even Detour.

Who is it 2nd from top on the far right on the cover?, first thought was Daltrey, it's not right? If it's Daltrey anyone know why this particular half obscured picture was chosen?

This may win today's "most banal comment" award but it occurs to me going off the generic titles that 'She rocked my world' closing the record presumably a love song, has a comparison with the final song on the Eels masterpiece Electro-shock Blues 'PS You Rock My World', a love song to life. We know Pete is generally knowledgeable about Mark Everett of Eels cause he contributed a quote to the cover of Everett's 2008 autobiography "Things the Grandchildren should know".

I think it is Daltrey circa 1966-1967. Looks like it was signed by him too.

"Why" would actually have been a pretty good title for this band. Or if they wanted to invoke their name and be nostalgic, they could have gone with any one of several phrases like "Who Knows", "Who Cares", or "Who Gives A Rat's Ass." There is literally no idea more banal than calling this album "Who."

Ta, yeh, a guess Pete has an obscured picture of himself (the kids are alright poster / teaser yes?) Daltrey's cover shot is also a retro photo, a signed picture which must have some special relevance to somebody somewhere. Maybe Blake's choice maybe not..

I'm not a fan either. This guy did Face Dances and it's too similar of an idea.

I'm calling it Detour anyway. Same way it's The White Album or Zeppelin IV.

*Plus it's impossible to search The Who Who and find anything relevant :(

"Who" is a lousy album title for this reason alone. I really do like the title "Detour".

I'm not all that excited by the prospect of new music, but maybe I'll be surprised. They don't have anything to prove to me at this point. I'd settle for just one more great song, but that's actually quite a high bar to clear on its own.

Hope I’m wrong but not looking good so far. Poor cover it’s Blake by numbers ( see what I did there!)
And if you are proud of your new album wouldn’t you come up with a good title for it?
Ball & Chain sounds ok till the singing starts, not sure about the song at this stage really.

    peace and love✌Dave

I must be posting in the wrong thread, because I'm not sure why this hasn't come up yet: "Ball & Chain" is a re-recording of a song that's been our for four years now. It's "Guantanamo", one of the "new" tracks of Pete Townshend's 2015 "Truancy" compilation.

(I personally prefer the new version.)

I'm curious what brought them to record a new album. They certainly don't have to; recording for the sake of having fun seems to have manifest itself as "As Long I Have You", and with "Endless Wire", it was clearly a classic ambitious PT high-concept project. That's why it seems strange that they'd assemble something that seems like it might exist just for the sake of existing. Maybe there's something lurking in the background that makes WHO a more direct statement than we can guess yet (maybe the strong 9/11 vibes coming off all of it are intentional). I can't see how they'd feel obliged to put out an album just for the sake of having one out (in the vein of "It's Hard", "Who By Numbers", etc). No need to do that anymore.

Or maybe it's supposed to be a pairing with "As Long As I Have You", kind of a reverse of "Endless Wire"/"Psychoderelict" or "Quadrophenia"/"White City". That'd be a nice thought.
