(CD Columbia Sony Music "Jazz Collection 1000" SICJ 104) 2015 .... recorded March 1st, 1961 @ Radio Recorders Annex, Los Angeles .... Duke Ellington (p) + Aaron Bell or Jimmy Woode (b) + Sam Woodyard (dr) .... not too much music in my house during this week but this sparse gem definitely makes up for the long austerity .... Duke Ellington and his angular pianism shine brightly ....

SMOKIN' AT THE HALF NOTE - WYNTON KELLY TRIO / WES MONTGOMERY (Verve|Master Edition) CD

Tracks 1-5 originally issued on Verve LP
    Smokin' At The Half Note
Tracks 6-11 originally issued on Verve LP Willow Weep For Me (although on the original LP tracks 6, 7, 9 and 10 were released with overdubbed orchestra). All tracks are dated 1965. The CD master edition version is issued in triple gatefold digipak & was re-mastered by Bob Irwin & Kip Smith at Sundazed Studios, Coxsackie, NY.

*According to information on the back sleeve "This (Master Edition) re-issue includes several tracks left off the original LP, four of which were later released on the Grammy-winning Willow Weep For Me with overdubbed strings and brass but here are restored to their bare-bones glory-pure, straight-ahead, unadulterated Wes Mongomery."

Willow Weep For Me (with the Claus Ogerman overdubbed strings) was recently re-issued by Verve in a cardboard gate-fold sleeve.

    Agreed. A fascinating session.

  17. Re: Wes Montgomery
Avery interesting Information to have these tracks "pure" and with the strings overdubbed. Never heard about such processings to issue the basic tracks.
I know of a Pacific Jazz Jim Hall Trio with overdubbed drums in the reissue. I own the latter version.
