Breaking Bad. I don’t think I’ve had more of a roller coaster ride with any other series. The Sopranos is more of a Shakespearean tragedy and its own peak, but BB was a visceral experience. My ex and I binged BB over the course of a month after the series ended (we hadn’t watched it at all while it was on) and it haunted us for weeks after. Watching it in such a compressed time frame contributed to its impact, I’m sure. BB The Sopranos Mad Men The Wire Justified (gotta support my KY people) GOT (the last season hurt it overall) Banshee (a real sleeper) OZ Daredevil TWD (The last several seasons I bailed)
I didn’t watch Mad Men until the last six months or so and did a similar binge. The finale certainly had many emotional payoffs. Hamm’s subtle performance really didn’t hit me until the last season when he let some of his repressed emotions out. Better Call Saul has been a different experience than BB, but incredible rewarding just the same.
1- Breaking Bad (2008-2013) not real time 2- Lost (2004-2010) not real time 3- Game Of Thrones (2011-2019) 4-The Sopranos (1999-2007) not real time 5-Banshee (2013-2016) not real time 6- True Detective ( 2014- not real time 7- Fargo (2014- Not real time 8-Mad Men (2007-2015) 9 -The Leftovers (2014-2017) not real time 10- The Walking Dead ( 2010- As you can see the majority of tv series above I watched posthumously. And joyous binge watching indeed.
1. Sopranos 2. Mad Men 3. Game of Thrones 4. Boardwalk Empire 5. West World 6. The Wire 7. Breaking Bad 8. Better Call Saul 9. Curb Your Enthusiasm 10. I need to start watching all this Netflix stuff and figure it out
The more I think, the harder it gets. Ray Donavan deserves a mention. Eddie Marsan and Dash Mihok are both extraordinary, and Jon Voight amazes me at how vibrant and fit he is.
Sopranos Justified Vice Principals Deadwood Eastbound and Down Edge of Alaska Southpark The Grand Tour Yellowstone Billions
Psych Breaking Bad Justified Burn Notice Eureka The Shield Mad Men Haven Six Feet Under The Dead Zone
I love that show. Jon Voight is the best current older guy in a series and as good as any of the classic Sopranos characters.
Breaking Bad Game of Thrones Sopranos Dark Boardwalk Empire Lost The Office (US) House of Cards Rick and Morty Black Sails
Impossibly, if you scratch off the *well, DUH-!* series' off the list, such as Mad Men Walking Dead The Americans Good Wife Better Call Saul Game Of Thrones Doctor Who Mr. Robot Stranger Things ...as well as John Oliver and Samantha Bee's news smackdowns.. ...I've still got a list of about 25, that I enjoyed the hell out of, several of which haven't shown up on this thread.
Halt And Catch Fire Altered Carbon The Expanse You're The Worst Mozart In The Jungle Orphan Black The Newsroom Humans Brittania X Company Travelers... ...barely scratches the surface. Have I mentioned, this is the Golden Age Of Television...?
There's still Please Like Me Fortitude A Million Little Things Eureka The Good Doctor New Amsterdam Counterpart Jessica Jones Mrs. Maisel Madame Secretary Orphan Black Suburgatory Dollhouse Preacher ...it's the damn internet, and I'm still running out ink...!
Futurama Breaking Bad Better Call Saul Rick and Morty The Americans Bojack Horseman Arrested Development The Good Place Stranger Things Mindhunter Honorable mention to Game of Thrones seasons 1-6
I won't do a top-10 because its pretty fluid, but #1 is, and will remain, the show Ed (which has not been released on DVD ever, much to my chagrin).
Assuming we can count shows that began before 2000 (but were still going in the last 19 years)... Breaking Bad The Sopranos Game of Thrones Six Feet Under Dexter The Office (U.S.) Friends Frasier Curb Your Enthusiasm That 70's Show
Off the top of my head, no particular order: The Americans Breaking Bad Broadchurch (UK) Deadwood Justified Peep Show (UK) Rake (Australia) The Sopranos Vera (UK) The Wire I'm sure I'm forgetting many great ones.
