The below is taken from Nick's Red Right Hand Files this morning. So excited with this as his last two albums have been stunning. For me he is the greatest artist working today (in music)

    Dear Joe,

You can expect a new album next week.

    It is called Ghosteen.

    It is a double album.

Part 1 comprises of eight songs.

    The Spinning Song
    Bright Horses
    Waiting For You
    Night Raid
    Sun Forest
    Galleon Ship
    Ghosteen Speaks
    Leviathan

Part 2 consists of two long songs, linked by a spoken word piece.

    Ghosteen
    Fireflies
    Hollywood

The songs on the first album are the children.

The songs on the second album are their parents.

    Ghosteen is a migrating spirit.

    Love, Nick

Today I got email from Nick Cave's Red Hand Files (it's website and free email list subscription where fans can ask anything from Nick) and it had this message:

    ================================================

Interested as always because any new music from Nick Cave (be it with The Bad Seeds, him just solo or some soundtrack-stuff with Warren) is always welcome and Im definitely looking forward to this one.
Yep, this monday got a lot better with these pleasant news and now can look forward to hearing new material from one of my absolute favorite artists/bands.
Honestly, I was a bit sceptical and thought this was just some little joke when I saw the album-cover, but as it's been mentioned on plenty of news-sites and music-sites, then it's must be real thing.

The Red Hand Files - You can ask me anything. There will be no moderator. This will be between you and me. Let's see what happens. Much love, Nick

I'm not a big fan of shadow drops ... on the other hand, I am a big fan of Nick Cave, so I'm in.

I’m really hoping there’ll be a return to a more melodic song writing style after the sparser arrangements of Push the Sky Away & Skeleton Tree.
I think Warren is immensely talented but could do with less of Nick waxing lyrical over sparse loops/soundscapes personally. Here’s hoping.

Yes. I still consider Lyre Of Orpheus/Abattoir Blues his high point.

Nick Cave hasn't really come across as being a particularly cheerful songwriter but my first impression note-unheard is that Ghosteen may be a journey deeper into tragedy.

Wow, I just saw his “Conversation With...” show on Saturday and he completely dodged a question about a new album. I took it to mean no time soon, glad it’s just that he didn’t want to spoil this Monday morning surprise.

So is this a digital-only release? Has anyone seen a pre-order anywhere?

i'd imagine it's digital to start with with CD and vinyl coming later.

One of the few artists where I will buy the album without hearing the music first.

    Nick’s a treasure.

Will be interesting to see if he stays in the style of the two most recent releases (which are staggeringly good) or goes in a new direction. The two long songs with a spoken word piece in the middle are certainly intriguing.
