There have been a couple of mentions of 'The The' as being Google-proof, but long before that there was a band that featured Mickey Rooney's son on guitar.
Of course no one could imagine search engines and algorithms in 1970, but even then it must have been confusing to locate the LP 'Album' by the band 'Song'!

In 1987, I saw a record by a band called the Hard-Ons in a shop in Pennsylvania. Has anybody else ever heard of them?

    I do.

Because it was Krieger and Densmore, they felt like the lesser members - or the butt-end - of the Doors.

Honestly, The Back Doors would've been funnier.

I dare say Mr. Warner has done quite well for himself in spite of his pseudonym. XD

    The B. Toff Band.

Their lone LP is *insanely* valuable.

There was a band in the Philadelphia area that gave themselves the unfortunate name of the Skam. I don't think the name helped them any.

This thread had been dormant for over a year when I showed up today and look at the activity now! The forum works in strange ways.

There have been a great many merely foul names submitted so I am emboldened to suggest The Thlyds. They are from the UK, so I guess this is a British pejorative as I've never seen it in the US. I mention them because I find their album title 'Thalidomidas Touch' tasteless and clever in equal measure. Also I suspect they are a provocative side project of the vastly talented Simon and Julia Indelicate. If you squint, you can almost see them achieving mass appeal...

It's "edgy" when you are 15.
Pathetic thing is the members of the band were well past the 20s when they formed it

I think the name is the last factor by which they don't have mass appeal

Man, it's difficult to agree with that. There's little that appeals to me more, frankly.

The name or the music? The name would definitely not pass the PC smell test. :faint:

Probably mentioned already but The Stranglers name went over like a lead balloon in the US.

Throbbing Gristle probably didn't do themselves any favours commercially with that name.

Slits in general, so the name. I'd be happy to do the smell test.

The short-lived Drug Addix were notable for including young Kirsty MacColl (under a pseudonym) as a backup singer.
(The song title is from Monty Python btw)
